"the salty buffalo" - my 97 zj limited

cliff notes:
rolled my 99 cherokee which i am keeping as the trail rig (build thread for that linked in sig), sold some armor off the xj and bought a 97 zj limited.

specs:
1997 grand cherokee limited, 4.0, auto, 249, loaded, 120k on it, mint body, needed some help under the hood.

stock pics

all cleaned up and buffed out some scuffs and brought the paint back to life

then a fog and headlight went out so i went to HIDs. 6000k 35w. i am going to put halogens back in the headlights and get matching temperature HIDs for the fogs. the fogs work great but the headlights throw the light everywhere and especially when snowing, cant see anything since it throws the light straight up

then came a sound system. sony deck, 800w amp, kicker speakers, 15" CVR sub, sounds great but the speakers arent the greatest, ill get new ones later down the road.

then came 31" all terrains on ravine wheels. rubbed all over since i didnt trim so i sold them a month later but gave me the extra push to put together a lift. i got the tires just in time for the blizzard we had and they did great. just as good as the km2s on my xj did.

then the xj went up north, im showing this pic because the wheels on the xj are what are going on the zj after i lift it and put my 31" KM2s on.

then next up was exhaust. traded some wheels to IRO for their complete 2.5" cat back exhaust with a 2.5" magnaflow hi-flow cat. really upped the get up and go but i got the cheaper muffler and it drones way to much. going to probably cut the muffler off the xj since its the more spendy but quieter one and put in on the zj

then stock wheels and tires back on and how it sits at the moment

and what i have all sitting in the garage, waiting for a nice weekend to go on. (coils are here, just not in the picture. 3.5" IRO and going to do the F>R swap)

so yeah thats my zj so far, i will put up more pics as i go and give updates.

next on the list:
-fix rust on pass rockers (just on the front fender rocker that you cant see)
-fix hatch rust (again, not much but still bugs me)
-door rust (just small amount under the lip on the inside)
-under the hood rust (couple bubbles under by the latch)
-put in 3.5" lift
-put on canyon wheels, 31" KM2s and 1" spacers
-detail everything
-tow hooks up front, hitch out back
-new muffler
-halogen headlights
-44a swap with 3.73 gears and put 3.73s in the front
-more stuff as i go.

forgot about the axle swap. my 35 is howling so im going to more than likely pick up a 44a with 3.73s and swap it in and my buddy redhatman has the 3.73 gears out of his old LP hes going to give me for next to nothing ill throw in since my 3.55s suck.

so thats my build so far. the goal for this is a nice DD that i can still use offroad. i will wheel it a couple times a year so thats why im getting KM2s, besides the fact that i loved my 35" KM2s on the xj. i work at a tire shop and have heard alot of people getting 40k plus out of their KM2s and when i sold mine after i rolled the jeep, they had about 5,000 miles on them and still looked brand new. i should have it lifted next month since it needs tires soon for sure. 3 out of 4 of my stockers are seperated.

enjoy

Can't wait to see this thing lifted! Are you putting the ZJ "snowflake" wheels on the XJ for now?

nah i have a set of 15x8 american racing wheels i was going to put on the zj on the xj. i tried a 31x10.5 on the zj with the AR wheels and half the tire stuck out haha. they have like 3.5" of BS so they stick out pretty far.

and i cant wait to see it in the air either haha will look so much better! i hate not being able to see over all the cars like i could in the xj hahaha

the canyons or snowflakes? i like the snowflakes, just tires are more expensive and in a 265/75/16, i can only find load range E. but im ok with spending less

well, instead of waisting the gas to pick up the canyons, i ordered in another set of ravines through work. they are 15x8s and i think im going to stick with 31x10.5 KM2s over 32x11.5 just so i can keep a little more power and should be perfect with the 3.73s going in.

im hoping ill get it lifted this weekend, but next.

stay tuned!

You're upgrading gears? I'd go with 4.10's if I were you. I think that'll get you about back to stock RMP's and power levels with 31's. Wait, do you have the 4.0 or 5.2? I can't keep track.

4.0 but im just doing a rear end swap and going from 3.55s to 3.73s, not re-gearing haha..well, im getting my buddy redhatmans old 3.73s from his old LP to match the back. otherwise i would do 4.10s if i were doing all new gears.
