It is TRUE, one can buy a beat up welder and some scrap metal and build anything they put their tme and effort into. My EXPERIANCE is that the less you pay for the materials, the more you have to work to make things fit your plan, clean off paint, etc, an in the end, you might wish you have sprung for the product someone else made.

I am a Veteran. I was a Cavalry Scout in the Army and was on an M3A2 Bradley CFV for 4 years. When I got out, I taught myself to weld. You can learn the concept of welding. You can not learn experiance. I have been welding for 11 years now, and Fabricating longer than that, but not by long.

I have Two GORTON 1-22 Tracemaster milling Machines With Hydraulic tracers, drill press, Air, Plasma Cutter, bandsaw, Portaband, umpteen grinders, sawzall, Hyd Brake that I built, Hydraulic 50 ton Press that I built ,a fully electric over Hyd JD Squared #32 bender and 4 diesets that cost over $4000 for the package, and a small turret lathe. I have a 2000 model Miller trailblazer Engine driven welder (best in class that year) and two wire feeders. All on a Mobile unit I built. I also have a slew of outsourcing vendors for what I can not do.

DO-IT-YOURSELFERS are awesome. I am one after all. Those are my rack and bumpers by the way... God Bless

Look for me soon in the VENDORS SECTION!!!

Yeah , its an awesome rack . I wish I had the cash to get one . He will become a vendor soon , so he doesn't want to really go into detail and irritate people hehe . But send him email or pm and he responds quickly .

I like the general idea with that rack. I like the tube size but the rack itself is a little to big for my taste. I would love to see you re-create the AEV rack. The one that replaces the entire roof rack but use the same size tube as you did in this rack. I think it would get alot of attention.

FIRST OFF, I AM NOT A VENDOR HERE YET, SO I WILL ONLY ANSWER THE TECHNICAL QUESTIONS...

I can absolutely build that, but as a general rule I do not like to COPY other companies products. I would not like mine copied either. BUt it has been done. I guess I shuld ask... DOES AEV CURRENTLY SELL THIS MODEL? If so, I can't build the same exact rack. My rack design is very similar to Gobi, but I don't think they build for the WJ among others, and the XJ I use roof mounting where they use Gutter mounts. Answer your questions? If not PM me. God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving. We have alot to be thankful for.

No AEV does not sell this rack anymore. If you did decide to make something similar to the AEV rack I think you could pick up where AEV left off. This is a pretty rare design and there are plenty of people that would love to purchase one. I think design wise you should use the same .840 diameter tubing that is used in the ebay one. Also offer options like light tabs that sit behind the sunroof area, hi lift mounts, shovel mount, and spare tire hold downs. A big plus for me and many others is the fact that is replaces the stock rack, which is much stronger. Now I am not trying to tell you how to build obviously you have proven that with the ebay rack, just trying to give you things that I and others would want in a rack. I think one of the things that killed the AEV rack was the high price. Now don't get me wrong, I love AEV's work with everything they do but they are building for the higher $ customers. Thanks for the chance to put my out there. And Happy Thanksgiving to you too.
