Will, I'm planning to stop by Low Range, sometime next week, to pick up JJ's, threaded tube ends and DOM. Let me know if you'd like me to grab some DOM and tube ends for you. Turns out the tube ends will be cheaper (& easier) than tapping the DOM.
I'm going to talk with Julene from summit machine and see if she has any ends available. Their website is currently being upgraded and doesn't have pricing.
I was just out measuring, and I am going to hold off for now. I need to remove my arm and test fit a johnny joint in my body side mount. They were designed for crawler joints which are much smaller. It is going to be close, but I don't know if the body of the JJ is too large in diameter. It might not sit high enough in the mount to actually bolt up. If it is close, I can clearance it just a bit. When you build yours, let me know.
If I do it, I will need 48" of DOM with (4) Right Hand 1 inch 14tpi inserts. I already have 4 johnny joints that I will use, two new and two that are on the existing arms.
I ordered a winch today and it will be in on Thursday. I am looking forward to it.
There's an XRC8 on the front of my best friends WK I'm riding in. Its worked awesome so far but if you're not going to use it in a while make sure its greased up properly we had to deal with a clutch release lever that seized up.

Thanks for the tip compcrasher, I will follow your advice.
@womps-When we go wheeling, I carry spare axle shafts, a small compressor, my large tool bag, spare fluids, extra control arm joints, extra control arm and other random bolts, a come along, old tie rod, old unit bearing, tire plug kit, grease clothes, a used serpentine belt...
Add you can see from my list, I kept a few old parts stopping add trail spares. They are not perfect, but they will get me oft the trail. Next time you change your serpentine belt, I recommend keeping the old one as a spare. I do not keep this stuff in the jeep all the time, only when wheeling.
Which handle are you talking about, I'll go look at it for you.

On a trip that we have planned next year, there will be a little bit of off-roading with no one else around. I want to be able to self recover if needed. I don't want to be another story of someone that was stranded for days before help arrived.
