Hey man I love your wj. I have a 2002 Laredo. Since yours is a '99 do you have any electrical problems? Since the '99 is the first year the WJs went to electrical components I was just wondering because that's what I heard. Ive also heard that the WJs have had problems with the V8s and was wondering if you have had any problem with yours? I was looking into getting an overland but I want to have the i6 just because of the reliability.

Thanks!

The only electrical problem I have had was a heater blower motor wire that melted and needed to be replaced. $15 and 15 minutes, easy fix.

Everyone says the 4.7 isn't as reliable as the 4.0, but I don't know why. The I6 has problems too. Most of the have an anoying tick, and the power of the v8 is great. I know of a few WJ's that have over 200k on the clock with a 4.7 and are just fine. I also know a few 4.0 owners that didn't make it to 150K. I have also seen the opposite of both of those statements.

For me, I will stick with the 4.7 for the additional power, great sound, and perfomance. The 4.0 doesn't get much better gas mileage anyways. When my 4.7 goes out, I will just rebuild it or find a reman.

I installed the second new battery this month. I think the one I picked up was bad, It wouldn't hold a charge very well.

I also installed by CB cable and antenna. I will continue to use my handheld unit for now, I have an adapter that is connected to the CB wire inside the cab. As some point I may install a full time CB unit in the Jeep, but I like the handheld for now. And with the 3 foot antenna, I will actually be able to communicate with others that are more than 20 feet from me

I ordered everything on Amazon, I picked up the Dodge Ram hood mount that I have seen others use on the WJ. It works great and looks good.

This pic shows where I ran the cable into the cab behind the tail light. I just stabbed through the rubber grommet with a screwdriver, then forced the cable through. It should remain a water tight fit.

I then removed the drivers side rear interior panel. The cable came in through the interior rubber grommet, then I ran it along the underside of the interior panel all the way to the drivers seat...just tucking it under the floor trim as I went.

I have seen others that notched the tail light to run the cable. I didn't do that, I just tilted the tail light down a bit. I may change that in the future, but it fits for now and it looks really clean IMO:

Once the cable was to the drivers seat, I ran it under the seat (the seat is adjusted all the way forward in this pic so that I had more working room. It isn't visable when the seat is in driving position. I then ran it under the center console, removed the center tray, drilled a hole in it, and left the excess cable in the console. Now I can just open the console, pull the cable out, and plug in my handheld CB!

I ran my cable the exact same way. Simple and worked great.

That's exactly how I did mine! With that setup I was having trouble getting a good SWR (kept getting 1.7) but looking back on it I think there may have been a bad ground or I messed up the pl-259 soldering. When I put it on my ARB I got AMAZING SWR (1.1) and range but I sold that so I'm back to the taillight mount. It looks right at home back there though and I was still able to fit in my garage.

Maybe the aftermarket tail lights have clearances that are not so tight.
