so i knew it was supposed to storm tonight. i'm not worried about the floors getting wet since they're rhino lined although i would like to have a dry seat to wheel in later this week so i went to harbor freight and picked up a cheap tarp today. it's getting cloudy out now and looks like it's about to pour so i'm ready!

went wheelin yesterday afternoon and got stuck in a creek. long story short one of the straps broke and the hook sailed through my back window. i know i should have been using straps without hooks but i didn't have much choice. luckily rear windows are only $25 at my local JY.

i'll try to get some better pics of it in the daylight when i get home from work today.

today i added a mod that i've been wanting to do for a loooonnnggg time now. god knows i've probably bought more than 10 replacement headlights in this thing. one or two of those were my fault by snagging them on tree branches in the woods but most of them due to the crappy header panels on the zj that just seem to let the headlights fall out and then i run them over with the front wheel. so after having both of them fall out within the last two wheelin trips i've been on, i've finally had enough.

i decided to say screw it and ditch the factory headlights. went to harbor freight and with a coupon picked up a set of their 100 watt offroad lights for $17.99. brought them home and first thing i did was take what was left of my header panel off.

then cut the factory headlight plug off and spliced the wires. one disadvantage is you only have single beams after this.

pretty simple mounting and adjustment on these, simple yet effective. nice and easy

drilled one quick hole and mounted. easy as pie! and no more headlights falling out or foggy lenses

mounted and wired up...

put what was left of my header panel back on and mounted the grill, and this was the end result. i think it makers her pretty mean looking in my personal opinion.

at dusk

and in the dark

and this one was just for fun

so i think it's finally time for the 8.8 swap. i'm really tired of throwing the band-aid on the d35. yet another axle shaft blown to pieces. as bad as i hate to, i think the zj will be out of commission for a while. i could be moving soon, so i don't want to tear it apart yet since i might have to move it. so it looks like it will get put on the back burner for a lil while until hopefully i have a garage of my own and can rip this thing apart and let it sit on jackstands for a while. but that might not be a bad thing since my mj is turning into quite a little project of it's own here lately.

It might be helpful to buy a 1/4 ratchet wrench if you own a Dana 35!

well what can i say, i just can't help myself. dirty turtle is having their jeep vs toyota competition this saturday and i couldn't miss out so i fixed the 35 yet again. tore the cover off and put another axle in tonight. putting gear oil back in it tomorrow and take it off the jack stands and she'll be ready to go. i guess i'll try to take it easy this weekend because although i am getting to know my rearend like the back of my hand, i'm getting a bit tired of laying on the creeper underneath it. not to mention i'm even sicker of the smell of rearend grease lol.

well i had to put a water pump on the other day. not once but twice, second time because the gasket decided to bend in a small spot on me and leak,so then it was silicone time

and today i snatched up some chromoly axles off craigslist for my d35, so that maybe it'll hold up the rest of this summer till i can get around to my 8.8 swap

The problem with putting good chromoly axles in a 35 is that when shafts stop breaking, other stuff will start breaking in its place. And replacing an axle is much easier (and cheaper) than setting up a new r&p.
Ive heard guys that go through axle parts a lot refer to stock shafts as "fuses" for the axle assembly, they blow to keep the rest of the system from getting damaged.

got a new roof rack threw some trading i did and got it mounted up and my spare back on top. i like the look of this one a lot better than my old one, it's built much better, and it's larger than my old one.

I like your jeep. And almost called my jeep build the same thing since I put cloth seats and putting Laredo door panels in. But since yours has the name I will refrain. And I do like your idea for head lights and I think I will do the same thing. But use fog lights as low beams and driving lights as high beams. They won't use factory wiring though.

it's been a while since i've got to throw a wrench on the zj. went through the process of moving into a new rental house (with a nice size garage) and now i'm finally settled in enough to start doing my axle swaps on this jeep. yesterday i stripped all the old parts off my hp30 w/4.10's. and today i managed to get the lp30 unbolted and out of the jeep. snapped a couple pics. more to come soon

crappy cell phone pic in the dark, hopefully i'll make some progress tomorrow and snap some better ones.

a little late updating, but monday when i got home from work i snapped some pics of the old lp30 out of the jeep.

control arms bolted up

another angle

i threw a few coats of satin metallic black on the hp30

pulled the old cover off

of course i love to play with power tools and this is the fastest way to remove old RTV

get to try out these lube locker gaskets, guess i'll see what all the hype is about

cover and skid bolted on

painted my coils

trying to get everything lined up to bolt in

axle and coils are bolted in. also got all the steering components in place but still need to be torqued down
