I believe it is so that the ears on the axle shaft are stronger. Especially since he is running 37's.

The purpose is to prevent a problem that we see a lot. The u-joint cap will either work itself out (if the clip comes off), or the yoke itself will bust before the ujoint. We found the AA's help keep the cap in place in case the clip comes out, and also it holds the yoke together from splitting with the bridge it does.

Do you reccomend using a greasable U joint? My buddy has a set of the AA's and he's worried he burned up the grease in the process of welding them on.

Correct. 37's did not come until recently, I am trying to keep the build in order. According to this thread I do not have LA's yet, I will take pictures tonight of everything.

Nope, greasable Ujoints have a hollow core in the Main body of the trunion. The non greasable ones are non greasable, but solid forged. Because its hollow, its weaker.

So I just got back from the junkyard, I needed to find a 3.73 and up Dana 30 carrier. There inventory only listed on ZJ on the lot, so I went straight to that. The axle tag was not present on the front or rear differentials, so I could not tell the gear ratio. So me being as smart as I was, I called the local Park Jeep dealer and had them run the vin. Sure enough, it was 3.73 ratio.

After I dealt with the SOB wheel bearing bolts, and got the bearing caps out, I had to pull the whole carrier out. As seen in the picture before, I used the housing spreader to pull it out. Once again, me being as smart as I am I remembered to pack a ratchet strap in hopes I could use it to my advantage.

One hook in the spiders, and the other on the front sway-bar. Worked like a charm!

Oh is that why my dog always goes crazy after digging in our tomato plants?

Thanks.

I did not do any more work on the axle tonight, but I did snap some pictures of the Jeep....Front swaybar still connected, I did not feel like disco'ing it so I just pulled up it quick for some pictures.
