LMFAOBBQROFLWAFFLEGRASSOMGHAHA that was funny. Quit pickin on the newbs lol

Well guys I was planning on posting more last night but I ended up staying late at IRO to finish up the Jeeps and load them on the trailer for MOAB. I will put a few more up, and then off to work again.

Now onto the 8.8. I went to the U-Pull yard on 1/2 price day and picked up my 8.8 with a buddy for $43!! 3.73 ratio, 31 splines, and drum brakes... thats the only downside. whatever, just back brakes so who gives a flying duck right?

Anyway, heres the pics.

Lots of wire wheeling and chiseling to get here. Took off all the old brake lines and such.

What I dont think the junkyard people realized is although I pulled a 1996 explorer axle, I dont have an explorer....AT ALL. It was going in my Jeep (shhh) but with this swap, we needed to put new brackets off, and to put new ones off, what do you need to do first? Thats right, take the old ones off! So, off with the mounts.

And my girlfriend at the time, I dont know why I even say girlfriend anymore. It seems like I should always just refer to my girlfriends as my future ex-girlfriends.

New u-joint, cleaned up companion flange.

Since I was keeping the drum brakes, and planning on running them I figured I would put in all new brake equipment, axle seals, and remachine the drums for the new shoes.

Now thats real stopping power!

With all of this money spending, and it being winter (My money tree does not grow well in the cold MN winter) I had to make some side money. My brother drives a car to make easy side money on. A Pontiac Grand Am. His lower intake was leaking, big surprise right? Anyway, so I did that for a couple of days instead of the axle.

I then brought the axle to Iron Rock Off Road and had them weld on all of my mounts. Although it would have been fun to try and figure that out, I left it up to the professionals. (Back then, I did not have a clue how to set that all up).

JK Coil Spring Buckets.

Tubes welded, might as well. Will prevent them from spinning so I had them do it.

With this new axle it was time to get bigger tires, time for 35's. I found some "Gumbo Monster Mudders" on craigslist, 35 x 12.50 R 15, came on Imitation beadlock rims. So I bought them, I found out the night of putting them on, they leak through the sidewalls (dry rotting) so I decided I would return to the cheapo seller, but buy the rims. I ended up scoring the set of 4 rims for $100! 15 x 8"

I liked the look of 35's so I Found some Mickey Thompson 35 x 12.50 MTX's. They came off a Samauri.

The rear axle was taken care of, but what could I do to the front? Certainly the CV Shafts would not hold up to abuse. I made a trip to the local U-Pull yard, and got a pair of U-Joint Shafts out of a D-30 for $18 a shaft, with wheel bearings (could not break the hub nut loose in the yard, so I bought the whole assembly)

Old shafts (I now keep for trail spares)

I took my freshly acquired shafts and decided to recondition them. I spoke to the guys at Iron Rock to see what I could do besides get alloy shafts. Odly enough, they offer a kit called "Almost Alloys". They are tabs you weld over the ujoint cap to prevent the cap from coming out, and also hold the yoke together.

IRON ROCK OFF ROAD: Almost Alloy Kit

I bought the set, and replaced the joints with spicer 760's which are much stronger than the OEM Joint. Put some fresh paint on and they were ready to go!

****The Almost alloys are not on in this picture, I put them on a week later.***
