I think I will go with remanufactured heads, or just remanufacture mine. This would involve remilling the surface, and a valve job. Along with a visual inspection on the heads all around.
Make sure the heads aren't cracked while you've got them off. Magnum heads are known for this.

Yeah I have been using this one guy that did my intake mani, front axle, knuckles, and some other stuff. Charges like 60/hr. I decided not to on this one due to his window, usually takes about a week to get stuff back.

Heads should arrive monday, and go on tuesday.

They were haha I already counted on seeing a crack between the valves.

The heads, complete intake, water pump and valve covers are all on and tight. I was working on getting the headers on yesterday, along with the Y-Pipe but I am having trouble getting the headers on. I picked up some short studs to try and ease with installation. Also, I have yet to get the passenger side header even mounted in place, first I kept hitting the oil filter, now the stock UCA mount, I dont see how these would fit a stock ZJ unless you installed them with the heads off?

Where'd you get them and how much? Might need to do the same on my 5.9 swap.

As for the headers, I've heard of the unibody rails needing to be "massaged" to get them to fit. Post up what you get to work, I have Mopar headers to go on mine, which were either made by ML or he bought the design.

http://headsonly.com/ $350 shipped, they provide shipping labels to return your core heads. If you dont return cores, they charge you another $100.

I got the headers on today.... what a *****. I ended up taking out the spark plug shields from the head, the oil filter, coolant reservoir bracket, and CUT OFF THE STOCK UCA mount. Now surely there has to be a better way to get it in, like say for a Jeep that actually needs those mounts? IDK but either way both headers are mounted and tight.

I am going to look into locking fasteners, I hear that header bolts always come loose. These headers look nice and all, but jiminy crickets there is hardly any room to work, and I dont know how you are supposed to actually torque the nuts. Half are tightened with what I felt was right, with a standard wrench.

I ended up using 3 1.25" long, 5/16" studs. Dorman #735-202 per side. Jeep should hopefully be running tomorrow! Just gotta put the rest of the accessories on, and also fab up the rest of the exhaust.

Note. I thought 5.9's had a factory 3" pipe? I guess not, mine is 2.5".

Looking good.

The 5.9s did come stock with a 3'' tailpipe, but just after the muffler, the rest is only 2.5" i think.

and i bought stage 8 locking header bolts, and gave up putting them together since its so tight in there, but i haven't had any issues with them backing off on either jeeps, i think it might just be an issue with the cheap headers and the thin flanges, because i know my friend with a chev and headers are always loose and leaking.

The clearance on everything is basically non existant.. the headers were very tricky to put in, and thanks to the Y pipe I now have a new oil pan heater, as well as my 02 hitting my tranny case. I am trying to seal up all of the flanges that are leaking still.

Looking good. (I know it's a pain) but what if you were to drop it again, and wrap it, also maybe just move the 02 bung alittle? Whenever i do exhaust I use "muffler weld" in all the flanges just to give it alil better seal. I also use band clamps instead of those c-clamps.
