I was just curious seeing as my 4.7 in my dakota stock makes 265hp. I thought the 5.9s made around 280hp.

So I bought a home made steering box brace on the forums a while back from a fellow member that was making them. It all bolted up nice, however it was unable to bolt in on top of my factory sway bar bushings. For the time being when I installed it, I put it under the stock sway bar. With this creating a gap, this caused the bushings to wear extra fast, and eventually they had slop in them and would clunk.
Soooo..... I bought a new set of aftermarket bushings, which are greasable, and have thinner brackets. The OEM replacement (Moog Brand) ones were only like $15 from the parts store, but these were only around $20 so I picked these up instead. Thinner bracket, and greasable.
I did my necessary trimming on the steering box brace, and wala, 15 minutes later, all bolted back up properly!

I've got that same steering box brace... I bought the same bushings too but I got my bar to go on underneath the bracket... You think it's better to have it the way yours is?

I saw that as quite the design flaw from the very beginning. I pm'd him a while back about getting a brace made utilizing both holes instead of just the one on each side, he seemed agreeable to the change but I suppose we both ended up dropping the ball on making/buying one. good little fix though Pat

Yeah I am 100% sure my solution is the best route, aside from what was just suggested. The problem with how I had it, and how you have it currently is that the bushing has room to move. Plain and simple, if its a "sloppy" fit, the bushing will wear out much faster. Not that I didn't know that before, but I was just in a rush to get it on and forgot to do something about it.
I am now looking into doing a hydro assist setup, I think the next wheeling event I will be attending (and the first for the niner) will be late july. Hopefully I will be able to go to that one (in wisconsin) and also I hope to make it up to the iron range for Iron Rock's customer appreciation event that we hold every year. Unfortunately I usually am about two weeks into starting the school year when we host it, which kinda sucks to try and make.
Has anyone done hydro assist on their rigs? How did you set it up? On all of the ones I have setup, the front axles have had over the axle trusses so that made it easier to mount. I also set one up on our shop zj (black ZJ on the website banner) and made a little bracket to weld onto the stock brackets by the factory stabilizer mount..... needless to say, the bracket held up, but all of the factory brackets ripped off of the axle during wheeling. haha! So from there on, we have always went off the trusses.
The rear bumper hasn't been getting too much attention, but it is still in the works. I am still playing around with those designs, along with ideas on how to move my coils around in the rear so they stick straight up and down. The only issue now is that on the passenger side, the factory trackbar mount is in the way.

Grant and I made yet another prototype bumper, I don't like the look of it so I think it will be back to the drawing board.
I am looking into ordering kits for my hydro assist steering as we speak, however I still need a good place to mount it. The next wheeling trip planned is July 28th weekend as of now.
Does anyone know any good online surplus stores for hydraulic supplies?
