I run blizzacks (studless snow tires) on my wk in the winter. My gf also runs them on her fx35. We have never had a problem not having studs. My 2500 has studded tires and all 3 vehicles perform the exact same. Seems a little excessive if you ask me and something else to fail.

They are probably just the little doo-hickeys they have in turkeys that pop up when the bird is cooked. Except these pop when they get cold.
