Yea, this recall was announced and then denied within the last week so the search function is probly not gonna have it. Lets all be adults and talk about this instead of bashing one another

It may have just come out on Yahoo, but it's the same article that has been posted by just about every major news outlet since yesterday afternoon. There is no new information in this article that hasn't been covered in the multiple threads posted since then. There's even several on the first page of this subforum.

As for the insult regarding my age, hopefully I won't have to resort to that as I get older

I wasn't an insult. If you took it that way I appologize. Sorry for not searching and making sure I wasn't repeating any past posts.

It happens. Forgive me as coming off as harsh for my 'nooblet' comment, we're all new at some time. The search function is a huge help, especially in a forum with as many active members as this. Welcome to the forum.

That being said, I see one of four things happening:

1- Factory fuel tank skid plate gets installed on all vehicles that did not come equipped with them.

2- Vehicles (ZJ's primarily) with the factory tow prep package get a factory trailer hitch installed.

3- Chrysler develops a crossmember, essentially a receiverless hitch, that will bolt in the same place as the trailer hitch for non-towing prep package vehicles.

4- It goes to court and Chrysler wins and nothing happens except a whole lot of bad PR.

#1...Don't see that happening because of #4
#2... I have a factory hitch (that was bent when i got it). Must not help much or it did and the thing didn't explode. This ties in with #3

I would be interested in seeing how many of the vehicles involved in fire incidents had either a factory or aftermarket hitches.

Assuming my #4 scenario is what happens, Chrysler would be smart to prove that NHTSA is not accurately representing its' recall recommendation and then voluntarily offer a 'fix' to help combat the negative press.

That' a good point about the hitch. There are alot of Jeep die hards that'll be upset if they don't do something.

I would also be interested to know if any fires have happened out on the trails because of no skid and bashing on rocks.

I'm new here but not to messages boards in general and I have to say, I've yet to see any of them have a search function that's worth a spit. Either the search is too narrow and you get diddly squat or it's too broad and you get 100's of posts with zero relevant info. Hate em, they all suck. I'll ask "what color is the sky" a hundred times before I use em.

Neither here nor there in this case though. Like stated there is at least 2 other similar threads on the first page of this section and at least one down in General Discussion. Not rocket science.

You're number 4 is pretty much right on the money. I don't see the feds being able to push a company to fix something they (the feds) signed off on in the last century. God help anyone or any company actually contributing to society if they do.................... The flood gates it would open.

(Edited: And Welcome JAMS from another nooblet!)

Go to google and learn to use the site: search modifier. Thats how I search.

For instance, try entering "recall site:jeepforum.com/forum/f13/" and see what happens.

let's be honest, zj's were a huge production line and there's a lot on the road. Rear end accidents are the most common of all accidents. We don't see a news story every 3 weeks on a zj blowing up or catching on fire due to that accident.

Hit any car hard enough, it will blow up.

I see #4 in the future.
