PeriwinkleZJ's build
This is a build thread for my 94 ZJ named "periwinkle" for its light blue color (I knopw periwinkle is purple, but the name stuck with my friends, and eventually caught on with my family). Ok here we go, I always loved my Moms 1986 Cherokee V6, and I wanted a jeep too. However I thought wranglers were for cheerleaders, and cherokees were too boxy. I came across this blue 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 249 automatic for $2400 with 186K on it. I think the guy bought it from the junkyard and fixed it up, because multiple parts have the neon writing from the local JY, and the unibody frame has a crack by the driverside rear tire. So I bought this as my first vehicle, my mom talked him down to $2100, then the np249 went out almost immediatly because he had different sized tires on the front and back. My mom took it back up to the guy and demanded he fix it or give us the mnoney back, and he did. He put another np249 in and took the driveshaft out, and gave me $500. So I had a stock 2wd ZJ for a LONG time. Here are some very rare pictures of the thing stock with all the pieces. Also I replaced the waterpump that went bad and its never gone past 210 wheeling since.
![]() ![]() I worked at a camprground, and one of my friends there bought a 2001 cherokee and lifted it 6.5" on 33s. Thats when I started to look at lifts for the jeep. I picked up a skyjacker BB with shockers for around $200 I don't remember exactly. That's when my heep took a turn for the worst when I was playing around in a small mud pit at the campground and went through some tall grass that was concealing a stump. It ripped my fender off and front bumper cover. Here is the aftermath after I replaced the fender (with a purple one, you know how hard it is to come across a blue one in the JY??) and the cladding I decided to ditch the front bumper because I had 31x10.50 baja claws (barely drivable, just bought for the rims 31" claws and black steelies for $90, couldn't pass it up) ![]() ![]() I also Picked up an IRO HD Tie rod, since I bent my stock one miscalculating an a pproach over a stump. That thing is BEEF I've dragged it across rocks and it just scratched the powder coat

But wait there's more!!
I finally picked up some matching Dayton Timberline 31x10.50r15 A/Ts very used for free, and she sat like that for a long time, and I pulled the cladding off, it just looks silly on ZJs.

WHAT?! There's even more??

I went through some hubs, axle shafts, and inner axle seals before I shredded the D30s gears, and went to uscg bootcamp ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then I came back from bootcamp with only $900 and was going to do an hp30 swap and limited slip while I was at it but ended up just swapping another lp30 from a 93ZJ, because of lack of suitable XJ donors. (New one on the blocks) ![]() This ones pretty self explanitory ![]() New (tome) axle ![]()

Seriously though this is the last one
I trimmed the fenders cause i knew I wanted to go to atleast 4-4.5" and was buying bigger tires to run for a few weeks till I saved up for the lift.
![]() After that I bought some 32x11.50r15 dunlop Mud Rovers brand new. I got a sweet deal on them becaus emy Aunt works at a tire place. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also made a super nifty light bar, and my gf bought me 4 KCs for $50 and only 3 worked, but hell for $50?? I Bought 2 HELLA 500s from walmart to supplement for the lack of lights, and ghetto rigged the hell out of it. ![]() ![]() With my younger brother "1stZJ" here's his build thread, I recomend looking at it. Much cleaner then mine, done right plus I Helped! http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f197/my-first-zj-build-873022/ ![]() ![]() ![]() Some more wheeling photos and such ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm turning the jeep thing into a family tradition my little sister just got her learners and is already looking at jeeps, especially ZJs and WJs and wants to lift it and wheel with her big brothers! The family on a shoe creek trip ![]() Well I finally bought a 4" Rough country kit with an IRO adjustable front trackbar and upgraded to doestch tech 8000 extended shocks for more down travel(I'm planning for future longarm). Finished the install last week, and it flexes amazingly and has plenty of room for more so I want to trim, or complete removed the intergrated bumpstops on the shocks. So I figured it was worthy enough for a build thread after the hell its been through. I put the front bumper cover off the jeep I bought to replace the 94. A 93 5.2 with 128K that ran fine, and now won't start and its in the shop right now taking up space becaus enoone can figure it out. Also I put a KOR radiator support on the 94. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Those are the most recent pics I have, more to come!

Everyone that owns a quadratrac ZJ dreams of ditching their NP249. That dream became a reality for me when my brother bought me an NP242J from the JY for christmas. We're not sure what year or model it came out of but whatever it was it swapped right in, and worked perfectly, although a little bit shorter than the 249.
Pics: The new (to me) NP242J ![]() ![]() The old NP249 ![]() ![]() I noticed a difference in the output shaft, and wasn't certain if it would work, but it was fine, but a bit shorter. Also this T-case doesn't require the yoke to be seated against the seal to seal it, that's one thing I like about it. I haven't noticed a huge difference in MPG, or power, but I have power braked it and got stuck with one wheel on a patch of ice. Time for lockers maybe?
