Nubster's 2002 WJ build thread

Well, not sure where I am going with this thing. At the moment it is pulling daily driver and family wagon duty. Even if my new Jeep won't see any hardcore off-roading doesn't mean it can't look good on the pavement...lol

This is my first WJ. Actually I drove one years ago as a company vehicle and I liked it very much. So here is what I have:

2002 WJ Limited with pretty much all the options
4.7L V8
Quadra-Drive
4" Rough Country lift
255/75 R17 on Chrome Rogues

Current issues with the Jeep:

Driver side heated seat not working
Rear passenger door lock does not lock except manually
Pretty bad case of Death Wobble - I think this is fixed.
Floats like a freakin' boat
I want to do all the fluids before winter (Motor oil and transfer case, front diff. done to date)

Plans:

JKS Track bar - Installed
Rubicon Express mono-tube shocks - ordered
MOOG steering stabilizer - ordered
Addco rear sway with Energy greaseable bar mount bushings - ordered
Hard-KOR Super-Hard Rockwell Durometer bushings - Installed
Crager Soft 8's - Installed
Rola Roof Basket - Installed
32/11.50 R15 Hankook MT's on 15x8 Soft 8's - Installed

Hella 500 fogs mounted to front bumper OR,
Westin Safari Light Bar with lights mounted
Fix issues listed above
New stereo system
Maybe an NV242 swap at some point

So there you go...only one picture from the day I brought it home. I will get more to post up soon and I will keep this thread updated as I do things with/to my new Jeep.

Yeah...same one...I paid $5500 for it but that is what he was asking on a classified ad over on JeepsUnlimited. I didn't try to haggle because he drove 2.5 hours to meet me halfway.

Ends up though the guy I am pretty sure screwed me over. Not really but sorta. Jeep is nice and it runs great but it has a heck of a DW issue which he claims he never had while he owned it. Funny that I got DW on the way home from meeting him and EVERY time I drive it I get hit with 2 or 3 episodes if I drive more then a few miles from my house. So I just can't imagine that the DW just happened to start after I bought it. Not much I can do now but fix it. I have parts ordered so hopefully that will take care of the issue.

looks like you've got some of the popular death wobble culprits ordered. the best way to find out whats causing a problem like that is to have someone wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while you lay under the front end and watch all the steering components for play. i fought it for a long time and this was the only way to truly check everything. it took me a good 10min to go over everything.

Yeah...might do that tomorrow. I just had the thing inspected and the mechanic had me turn the steering wheel to check the tierod ends and he said they looked good. He also checked the ball joints (one side only) and said they were good as well. I'll have to get under there and really give EVERYTHING a close look. I am praying that one of the parts I ordered and/or the alignment will cure it. If not...at least they are parts that are upgrades so I am not really wasting money on them.

the trackbar and bushings for it are a popular cause, it certainly did it for me. it will drive good again, mine drives like a bmw(ish?) now and there were times where i tried to sell it and times i was worried the uniframe wasnt straight.

Thanks...yeah...it is a nice Jeep and even with the problems I think what I paid isn't bad...just pisses me off that the jerkoff passed his crap off to me and even lied about it. I guess it happens all the time but still...he even owns an off road business. I should file a better business bureau complaint...lol

Just looked over your build thread...I do like the looks of the KM2's on your Jeep. Only reason I might not go with them is simply because I don't plan to do much if any wheelin' in this Jeep...I know, I know...but I depend on it to get me back and forth to school and I really can't afford to fix stuff if I break it. Wheels and tires are a little ways off though so I have time to think about it.

Just messing around this morning I wanted to see what some DuraTracs would look like on my Jeep. I am not great with PS and doing it quickly makes it even worse but it gives a good idea. Now I need to find some different wheels...lol

WOW....terrible PS skills...lol

Changed out the transfer case fluid. Only took about 1.5 qts. Is that normal? Also did the motor oil over the weekend. Mobile 1 10w30 full synthetic and a PureOne filter.

If I can find the correct oil/fluid want to try and do the trans and diffs tomorrow or this weekend. I got the trans filters today and grabbed a couple bottles of friction modifier too incase the diff. oil I get doesn't have it already.

I am ordering wheels and tires tomorrow and possibly a roof rack too. Hoping my parts from Kolack get here before the weekend...I would love to get those on before next week. After all that I will be getting a much needed alignment. So that is the short term plans for this month.

Wheels ordered. Went with the generic Crager Soft 8's until money is better that I can afford a nicer set of wheels and tires. Still trying to decide on tire size. I really want Duratacs but I am also now thinking about Authorities from Walmart just because the price is so good at $133 a piece. They biggest they come in is 31/10.50 R15. I was wanting something in a 32" or even a 33" but that might be pushing it.
