YOU need a 242 with an exposed input shaft of .84". Also you will need to get your DS shortened bu around 1" if the 242 has EXTERNAL slip yoke. If you find a 242 with INTERNAL slip yoke (same as your 249) then you dont need to change anything on your DS. Also you need the yolk that bolts to the front axle for the DS, and a ZJ front DS. XJ DS wont work, I tried. You can however get the yolk for the front axle from an XJ. Check my build thread, I swapped in a u-joint front shaft from a ZJ. Hope this helps

ok so im doing a 242 swap right, will i be able to use my current driveshaft if i get the ujoint yokes for the axle and driveshaft? and by exposed input shaft that means literally a shaft will be poking out of the tc and it will measure .84"? stick with me here i think i got it lol

The input shaft will be sticking out .84". Your front DS length will be right, you wont have to change that. And if you get the internal slip case, you wont have to change your rear DS either. BUT if you get the EXTERNAL slip then you will need to get your current REAR DS shortened around 1" or get a SYE/HnT.

Internal Slip Yolk -

External Slip yolk -

Usually they're talking about the axle. If your CV's are fine (boots are intact, they're not clicking on turns) then leave them. If they're bad, swap them for U joint shafts.

Check EVERY bolt. Especially the trackbar bolt at the axle. That one has a tendency to loosen up.
