My Slow WJ Build Thread

We bought our WJ in October of 2008. It was a one owner and was bone stock and had 100,400 miles on it. We originally bought it because we had a baby on the way and the wife's TJ wasn't going to cut it. My plan was to put a small spring lift on it and put some new meats on it(which i did). Then drive it till the TJ was paid for. Well now that the TJ is almost paid for I offered to start driving it and trade my WJ off to get the wife a 4 DR JK. She said she would rather build a house than have another car payment so the WJ build is on. Below is some stock photo's.

Shortly after the 2.5 lift i added 3/4 spacers to the front to level it up a bit and to help with the rubbing. Since i haven't got a good picture of this I'll post one later. All other suspension parts are stock. Now as of march 2011 i had been driving the WJ with no issues for about 2 years 4 months. Then came the vibrations. So fearing the worst (DW) I ordered a JKS adjustable track bar from KOLAK. I strongly recommend you look him up for great prices. So i installed the track bar and that's when the DEATH WOBBLE began. Now sitting in the garage i have 4 new ball joints(moog), 4 new tie rod ends(moog), 2 wheel hub assembly's(timken), upper and lower coil spring isolators(moog), JKS HD drag link, JKS HD tie rod, and cv axles. Hopefully I'll get to put this all on this weekend. I also bought my JKS drag link and tie rod from kolak.

So this weekend i installed my 4 new ball joints(moog), 4 new tie rod ends(moog), 2 wheel hub assembly's(timken), upper and lower coil spring isolators(moog), JKS HD drag link, JKS HD tie rod, and a rough country dual stabilizer. I had planned on replacing my cv axles but the folks at autozone gave me the wrong shafts or I gave them the wrong info so i put the old ones back in since they were still good. After I replaced all the parts but the stabilizer and set my toe I decided to take it for a spin with no stabilizer at all. The jeep drove great and no more DEATH WOOBLE . I put about 12 miles on it and then installed the dual stabilizers. I also removed my running boards. Below is a pic of a bad ball joint that fell apart while being removed.

Since my tires rubbed with new wheels i did some minor trimming. I believe I'll be ok on the street but no offroading or unhooking swaybars.

It will most likely see some light duty off roading in the spring. If I ever get my xj done it is for the more serious stuff.

Changed my fuel pump last night. I cut a hole through the floor to change it and boy is that tank close.
