Rally WJ Build Thread (updated 8-18-08, just for madrabbit)

Ok, so I've got enough stuff at this point to where I can consider starting my own build thread.

This is not your typical build, as I am not running trails and rocks, I am using this as an emergency motorsports response vehicle for the NW rally racing circuit.

I am retiring my previous 1991 Cherokee (Laredo model at 200K miles) seen here:

Because I purchased this:

It is a 2002 Limited with the 4.7L V8 and the quadradrive system. I bought it just as it hit 83,000 miles. It is pristine in and out, I have yet to find an issue with it, except the shiny stuff peeling off of the Jeep emblem on the hood.

So I started by eliminating the intake that came on it, it was a monstrosity. You can't tell by looking but the tubing is shoved all the way in the full length of the filter. Cheeeeese.

So I replaced it with one of these:

It didn't take long before Portland radio began to bother me, so I went in recently and stepped up to a new head unit, and a Sirius receiver, and the adapter, and $560 later I had new tunes.

I opted for the new Pioneer Premier 700BT with the built in bluetooth, ipod controls, and cd player. I'm partial to alpine, but their new bluetooth unit required an adapter and had no cd player.

I took a picture of the bluetooth mic and quickly realized I need a new camera!

Oh and I also bought the adapter so I can retain my steering wheel controls!

I popped in my Scanguage, but I need to find it a more permanent home, its just sitting here for now.

Popped my Tom Tom One in there too

Then I started snapping pictures of all the stuff that will be going onto it.
Vista Lightbar, Interceptor 400 Siren Box, and the ICOM Ham Radio will actually be sold so I can get a spiffy new Yaesu quad band.

I also toyed with mocking up locations for the hidden lights I am going to run. This set is paired with one amber and one green on each side. The triple burst wigwag pattern they put out is pretty neat.

This red 95A polyurethane sheet will become mudflap extensions. It's pretty neat stuff and will look very rally car-esque, so its perfect for me.

Last but not least, PNWFab.com Rock Armor™ rock sliders. Gotta protect, even if I don't plan on doing any real wheeling.

So what's next?
Well, other than installing all my sirens, lights, rock bars, etc...
I have until September to be ready for the next rally event, which is Wild West Rally in Pomeroy, Washington. Before that event comes, I would like to be lifted, have my TrXus MT's on, and have my winch and bumper on as well, but at the very least, a minimum of bumper and winch would be nice. As I sit I don't have any front recovery points and that just won't do.

Nice dub looks really clean - I like the sliders I've never seen them before looks like good lateral protection. I'd at least grab a TC skid too, if theres a possibility you might use your sliders then you should protect the TC.

www.pnwfab.com is owned by my friends Joe and Karl. Joe is the actual fabricator, Karl runs the business side.

They tend to do only newer framed vehicles, but I encouraged them to step into some late model Jeep stuff recently. They normally make overly beefy weld on's for framed trucks, but now have drill/bolt on for XJ, ZJ, and WJ. They are very sharp looking and very stout.

It's just money right, I will be selling my 540c soon after I upgrade. Look For It in the Classifieds.

Money for me better spent elsewhere.

I bought the TomTom One because it was cheap and I was having a hell of a time finding my way around 100 different places in L.A.

Other than that, I use it to find addresses I've never been to before.

It's of no use to me in rally racing, other than getting to the location.

Got Ya, I never use mine on the pavement, only offroad. The areas I where I wheel are zig zagged with roads, If you don't have a Topo you will be in big trouble real fast.

I do plan on moving into a Magellan Crossover GPS. Still cheap but a little nicer and has TOPO maps.

i was going to call shenanigans if you put the vista whale on top of the WJ.

I have yet to see a single kind of car that thing looks good on top of.
