My New ZJ - Build Thread

Well, after 2 years out of Jeeps I got another. Picked up this 1998 ZJ Limited for $2800. It's got a 157K on the clock. The exterior isn't perfect got a few dents and is pretty faded and scratched, gonna wrap it in Desert Digi Cam so that's minor to me. The interior is very clean and outside of the common "BAD COOLANT SENSOR" warning and the rear hatch not locking with the key she's pretty much good otherwise.

Ordered a new bushing kit for the transfer case as currently the linkage is not connected and can't be dropped into 4 Low.

Also ordered the new JCR Offroad front ZJ bumper, Rubicon Express 3.5 lift with monotube shocks, 17" American Eagle 140 wheels and Falken Wild Peak 265/70R17 Tires.

I do alot of fab work and am gonna build a roof rack and add to the JCR bumper as well.
Lastly, a pic of my last car build up which I sold and paid for the ZJ and it's upgrades with:

Although I have a different color and wheel choice, these are basically my plans for the summer so it will be nice to watch it unfold before my eyes before I actually do it. I hope there are ALOT of pics. Why did you end up choosing the RE 3.5 over the IRO 3.5?

It all comes down to availability. A division of my employer has a wholesale account with what is essentially 4 Wheel Parts. So for the best bang for my buck so to speak I went with the RE kit. We also have an AE account and a wholesale tire supplier so those are the options I went with. Net net, I sold the bug for 5k. It paid for the Jeep, the lift, bumper, wheels and tires. Not a bad trade considering I bought the bug for $500. It looked nothing like what I sold it for but I only had 3K into it....

And since I last posted, pulled the VIC display out, re soldered the bad circuitry for the bad coolant sensor and viola, the warning light and beeps are GONE!

You'll find little use for it now that its fixed, prob end up putting gauges or switches there!

Thanks, had a good time building her. My day job is at a mail order VW company so VWs are a simple and fun build for me.
