nothing much going on with the rig lately, moved to a different house and it's too hot out to do much anyway.

took the GF's KJ on the Cinders trip this weekend instead of the WJ, it did great as the "baby Jeep" of the group!

ever since i did my Android tablet based carputer, i've had a random bug where the steering wheel control app stops working. i finally figured it out this weekend and i'm seriously so happy that the stupid buttons always work now! ... sometimes it's the little things

a newer version of my steering wheel button interface app for Android is finished. mostly minor fixes, code cleanup, improved documentation, etc.

Amazing build. Your rig is the inspiration for my new build. I hope you don't mind if I steal some of you ideas.

Question..

I have a Nexus 7 (2) that I want to use like you are with the steering wheel controls. I checked out your link, and your write up on MP3 car, but I'm only geek level 3 when it comes to things like this.

I'm a little lost at the "compile and deploy the application" step. Is this something you do with Eclipse? Is there a link you can point me to?

what vehicle are you putting it in? if it's a WJ or the 97 TJ then the app would likely work as-is, so if you PM when you are ready i can send you the latest compiled .APK file and you can just install it on the tablet....

if it's going in something where you need to tinker with the application (a newer vehicle for example), then you'll need to install the ADT Bundle (android developer tools, android SDK, and Eclipse), load the project, mess around, and then compile and deploy to your device. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

currently my app only works with USB scantools, so you would need an OTG cable for your Nexus (an adapter cable that lets you plug regular usb accessories into the tablet). i'm not familiar with the Nexus so i don't know if you can do that and have it still be charging... you may need some special cable or dock or something for that. i plan to eventually adapt the app to work with Bluetooth scantools to get around this, but no idea when i'll get to it
