I was just going to mention how much cheaper the 5.9 is lol. Plus, if you ever feel that that's not enough power you can stroke it to a 408!

I'm going to start buying the parts other than the 5.9 Engine, since that money wont be here until August. For the swap I have read I will need:

5.9 flexplate - $59
(http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...860&cc=1315953)

5.9 harmonic balancer - $59
(https://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/x,car..._Balancer.html)

5.9 driver's side motor mount
(Still looking)

Mopar ECU (Flashed) via Kolak

And if I'm already spending this much money I will buy a set of Thorley headers when I purchase the engine. I will have to find somebody where who specializes in installing engines and ask them which company they recommend. I'll ask Kolak for his advice, as well.

Am I missing anything?

Not including shipping and labor, my excel sheet for everything comes out to $5401, so I am assuming around $8,500 to get the ZJ in perfect, reliable, and long lasting working order.

Yeah. I got thinking that if it does get hit and totaled after everything is done, I'd have to buy a new ZJ and swap everything over. That would suck. Decisions... Decisions...

Well, I wasn't thinking about that, I was thinking about rust wise....
But then I remembered not everyone lives in Maine where they salt the living hell out of the roads in the winter 6+ months...

If mine were to be totalled(a quick prayer to the Jeep Gods for safety ), I would most def find another ZJ and swap everything over. It would kinda suck, but what better way to familiarize yourself with a "new" ZJ. Plus it would be a labor of love!

I can't find any rust on mine. The previous owner did the "Chassis Saver" spray under it, so maybe there is rust forming under there that I can't see. $8,000 is a lot, sure, but aside from the rust it's like getting a brand new ZJ for far less than the cost of a newer vehicle. New engine, rebuilt transmission and transfer case. If I drop $10,000 on a 2005 Wrangler I essentially just paid $10,000 for a metal tub and am going to have to replace much of the same things. At least, this is my thinking. Please feel free to sway my opinion, lol. I need a reliable 4x4 vehicle, but looking at the prices of buying a new 2005 Wrangler I feel like I'm just wasting money. At the same time, I don't want to drop $8,000 into my ZJ only to have regrets, later.

Not gonna try an' sway you at all. I'm thinking I'll own ZJs the rest of my life!!!!

Both of my ZJ's floors have the chassis saver and both look pristine from underneath, but upon pulling the carpets back, I have found my floors are rusting out from the inside....
I definitely have some cutting and welding to do in the very near future....
But I think that's fun stuff, so I prolly won't complain.... Much......

I'll have to check under my carpets. We don't get too much rust here in Montana, but the Jeep did come from Utah. So... maybe. The engine, however, does look rusty - hence the crate engine. All this ZJ talk has made me want to go check mine out.

BTW, we've had my wife's ZJ for 3 yrs and have put slightly under $3,000 in it since then. Will need more work eventually, but it's nearly perfect now!

I find that even if it costs me, say, $300 a month in repairs, it's still less than a new car payment and full coverage insurance..... And don't forget that even new cars need repairs too...

Can't talk me into a new vehicle.... Not even if they started building new ZJs again...

Your Jeep is gunna be sick dude. As for the motor mounts, I'd go for Ironman4x4fab. I'm ordering some soon, and I hear they're nothing but beef.

Chassis saver and Monstaline the interior then put the carpet back in. Won't have to worry about rust ever again.

I think I'll do this. I want to white monstaline the outside, as well.

This build thread will be on a hiatus until August. I'm just going to hit it all at once, then.

Doing it in white sounds like it would be bad ***. I've been thinking about going darker like the jungle love color or the new jeep green they came out with.

Decided to just rebuild the current engine and drive it until it explodes, then drop a 5.9 into it. Let me know if you have any suggestions:

Transmission Rebuild Kit
5.2l Engine Rebuild Kit
Hansen Front ZJ Bumper
KOR ZJ Rear Stealth Bumper
KOR ZJ Side Rockers
IRO 3.5" Benchmark Lift Kit (W/ 3.5 Rear Coil Springs)
