Got my season pass for skiing and the Jeep isn't ready to make the trek, yet! Looks like the Impreza will be king for a little while longer. In other news... when I get back from New Zealand in January I'm going to have the mechanic replace all my control arm bushings. I've heard they can be a PITA so I'd rather have them do it while they're doing the brakes. I can replace the axles, myself, later on. Things are coming together!

Still alive. After I got home from New Zealand I decided to take the Jeep to school, but it died at the stop sign a block from my house. I managed to get it started and take it home, and I suspected that it was due to the -20*F temperature. Well, waited about a week and when I started it up and put it into Drive the engine would roar and shake violently. So, I assume it's either the Throttle Position Sensor or the Crankshaft Position Sensor, so I ordered two of those. I took the battery out and charged it in my garage, and it's been sitting in there until I can put it back in and pull the Jeep into the garage (it's on the other side of the street).

Money pit.

order Mopar? also clean you IAC and throttle body. When the throttle body is really gunked up it can stick closed. When the engine roared and shook, did it die? or did you turn it off?

Maybe hit up Iser (http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/i...hread-1401938/) for tips on how to cold-weather prep the ZJ. He drives in -50 degree weather in Alaska.

I ordered one from 1A Auto. I know it's not Mopar, but I thought I would give it a shot. If it doesn't work I can return it. Yeah, Iser is in Fairbanks, I was stationed there, too. I used to have to wake up and auto-start my truck every 2 hours and it had every kind of heater installed that you can imagine, haha. Fairbanks is the worst. I should have gotten a battery blanket before hand (I have one now) to keep the battery from draining. It would be fine in park, just rattle in drive. Some Google-fu returned the symptom to be a sign of either a failing TPS or CPS, I forgot which one. I cleaned the throttle body out a couple months ago, but I suppose it is possible that precipitation got in there and froze, causing the issue. I'll check it out.

I dubbed today, "Jeep Day". I just want to get this thing running reliably so it can be my winter car and I can get my BMW Z4!

I changed the oil & filter. Clearly the original owner never did their 60,000 mile tuneup. Or 100,000 or 200,000. Guess I'll do the 260,000 mile tune up .

Changed TPS.
Changed spark plugs.
Installed new subwoofer

Sunday I will change the CPS if I can find the damn thing. I'm having difficulties locating it, even with my Haynes manual's description.

Old:

Next up will be a new fuel filter/pump and injectors.

After a lot of awesome help from the guys in the Electrical forum, I got my subwoofer up and running. It's nice to actually have a little bit of bass in the Jeep. The maintenance I did last weekend made the Jeep run way better - almost night and day better. The engine now idles clean.

The only reason why I haven't been driving it is because the transmission is sticking a little bit. On Tuesday I'm taking the Jeep down to my mechanic to get the transmission fluid and filter changed, and they're going to put in my new CPS since I heard it's a PITA to put on. The CPS isn't MOPAR - it's Wells, and I got it from 1aauto. I know everybody says to use MOPAR, and I should have, but we'll see how this one goes.

Then, I'm hoping to just need the following to get it daily drivable:
- New brake rotors & pads ($160)
- New control arms ($205)
- Drivers CV Axle ($157)
- Wheel Spacers ($160)

That total comes out to $592. I'm going to do all that myself... may offer some of the ZJ guys in my town free beer and pizza if they help me out.

Started my bumper trimming. Basically, I'm going to cut at the bottom groove all the way to where the bulge is, past the fog light, and then down.

Yeah I just got back from Lowes. I had to get a hand-saw thing to get the angle down there. I tried to do it with my new electric saw thingumajig but it sprayed plastic shrapnel in my face, haha. I'm not Mr. Arts & Crafts at all, so if it looks like crap I'll just take the bumper off. I want a steel bumper, eventually, anyway.
