You are trading luxury for a wind blown rattle box. I wouldn't trade for a 4 banger. At least get the 4.0. I went out with a guy that had 98 wrangler on 35's, 4.0, and 4:88 gears and with the wind it was hell for him on the highway. If it's just a trail rig then you are still going to want the 4.0.

You are young so who cares. The ZJ is by far a better truck for everyday. Get the Wrangler if you think it will get you laid. Not much space in the back of that. I have gotten busy many times in the back of my old ZJ with the seats down. You are trading down with value, price, and comfort. I don't know how much a 4.0 costs used or new. What is the transmission in the wrangler?

I'd keep the ZJ.
I just don't like YJ's, and that 4cyl will suck.
And for what it'll take to do the swap, you could just buy one with a 4.0 in the first place.
If I were you I wouldn't settle for anything less than a TJ if going with a SWB Jeep.

So you want to trade a newer, more powerful ZJ, for a four banger YJ, just to pickup seat-covers for the summer? Your buddy will be laughing at you, come next the wet/winter season, when said seat-covers are snuggled up in "his" warm ZJ, while you're freezing your tail off in a jeep that can't even out-run it'self.
Wouldn't be a hard choice for me to make.

simple factoid mathematics puts the zj over the yj.
ABC.....WXYZ.
see, YJ is lower on the ranks scale than a ZJ. The ultimate machine....
wouldnt trade it for any wrangler. LOVE MY ZJ.

My opinion keep the ZJ, much better all around end of story lol
Buuut If you truly want that wrangler, I work in a mechanic shop and had this bad *** wrangler came in yesterday and it had a 5.3L vortec and the 4L60E out of a newer Chevy! It was beautiful and sounded amazing, the fab work was sick I had to do some research, and found out they make a direct bolt-in kit for the newer Chevy drivetrain in the wrangler.
So my next suggestion would be if you plan to invest in a new motor go with the 5.3 v8 out of a newer Yukon

I was struggling hard here to keep a straight face and my mouth shut.
Sorry Polka and you are not helping much by replying with ...
