Magna Flow Exhaust

FYI, I just bought the Magna Flow Exhaust off Ebay for my 07 Commander Limited 5.7 for $415 shipped. There is a company on there called Wundercarparts that wont advertise the manufacturer of the exhaust but if you e-mail them they will tell you exactly what you are getting. Anyway, I thought it was a great deal since everyone else on Ebay wants $560 or more.

That's a good deal for that exhaust but I have to wonder why you purchased that one. It's the incorrect diameter for your 5.7 HEMI. You need a 3" system for best power gain and the Magnaflow is just 2.5".

Also, if you check your stock tubing, you'll see it measures about 2.75" so the Magnaflow is actually a downgrade as a result.

You could achieve better results than the expensive Magnaflow catback with a simple muffler swap and resonated tip. That would cost less than half the price of the catback.

The best results would be achieved with the Gibson 3" catback.

Don't mean to rain on your parade but I'm a bit incensed by the marketing deviousness practiced by those who make 2.5" catbacks.

If noise is not what you want, but still gain better flow then stock, you chose the right system. Have had mine on for over 5 months, and wouldn't want any other cat-back then the mangaflow on my grand. Congrats on the purchase, your going to love it, guranteed .

To amplify my point, you could purchase the same Magnaflow 5x11 muffler that they use in their catback kit and add a resonated polished tip for right at $160.00. Keep the stock tailpipe which is larger in diameter than what Magnaflow provides. A muffler shop can install this in about 30 minutes time, so for right about $200.00 you have a system that outflows the Magnaflow catback and sounds great because it uses the very same muffler they supply in their $400.00 catback!

Not looking for loud, just hopefully a little rumble. Also hoping to get a little more performance and better gas mileage. My son put a Magnaflow on his Patriot and picked up 2 mpg. I think by removing the weight of the stock system alone will give me 2 more mpg. I appreciate the feedback.

I did give this some thought before I purchased the cat-back, but then I did some research on a setup that your describing, and it seemed that most people with this setup, complained about noise, and interior resonance. Having put on a 3" open exhaust system before on my previous 07 Grand 4.7l(RIP), I decided to go magnaflow. My personal experience with larger diameter piping, is that it contributes to more unwanted noise. The magnaflow system works, as a whole, to give just the right amount of deep tone, that is not over-bearing. To me, the perfect balance of performance and tone.
Just my personal opinion .

I bought a stock SRT8 cat back system and plan to replace the stock muffler with the Magnaflow 12599. Dual 2.75" pipes with the magnaflow should sound nice once it's all done. Keeping the stock srt8 rear resonators, but plan to just have the exhaust routed down behind the receiver hitch. Going to be a shame cutting off those pretty tips! After looking at the stock exhaust and how it barely sticks out below the bumper, im planning on having a similar setup just with 2 pipes near the center. So $200 for a 2 week old SRT8 catback and $107 for the muffler should be a pretty good deal. Throw in install and im still out the door cheaper than a 2.5" single pipe catback

Maybe i could keep the tips and do something like this....

Your going to need that extra pipe for your 6.4L . You have to let everybody see that beast when it is done, and track times as well. I will be looking foward to seeing the finished product

Thanks me too! It's been in the shop for 84days now, i miss it. I was told the block and rotating assembly would be done this week. Im hoping the heads and accessories go on and they start the reinstall next week. Fingers crossed for next Friday

Went to visit it last Sunday and let it air out. That 2" Daystar looks pretty good when there's no engine weight in the front! lol Look at those poor rotors....

There is no drone or interior resonance if you use the resonated exhaust tip I described. The system is very deep-toned and mellow with the stock 2.75" tubing. I've been using the Magnaflow large case muffler on Jeeps for over a decade and I'm very familiar with its tonal qualities in every configuration.

There's a few Supras there, 2 twin turbo vipers, a Ferrari, and a GTR that runs 10's in the 1/4. Lots of cool cars. Judging by the height of that front end im guessing that one is engine-less as well lol

You will be happy with the Magnaflow, I tried other mufflers with the stock resonator and it just didn't sound right. I would buy the Magnaflow kit again in a heartbeat, it costs alot, but the tone is perfect and you know it's going to be right the first time. How much difference in butt dyno are you really going to feel in the different pipe diameters....I didn't feel any. Bottom line, you'll be happy with your purchase, enjoy it!

I agree with you 100%. I doubt Magnaflow would design a system that didn't flow better than stock. I don't want a hodge podge system of different parts either. I can see spending $200 to $300 on piecing something together that I would hate. Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping I made a good choice. Cant wait until it gets here.

I've been designing Jeep exhausts for over 15 years. I certainly would not recommend a "hodgepodge" to anyone. If you search this forum, NAGCA, JeepsUnlimited, Google, and Youtube, you'll see there are thousands of Jeepers running my exhausts.

The aim of my post was to enlighten others as to the possibility of saving a lot of money as compared to a prepackaged catback.

The very same muffler that is used in the Magnaflow catback is just $110.00. Install that with your stock 2.75" exhaust and you will have a system that outflows the Magnaflow prepackaged catback. And it will sound the same because it's the same muffler.

An aftermarket resonated tip will kill any drone, or keep the stock resonator.

If you want optimal performance, Gibson makes a full 3" catback for the HEMI.

Again, just trying to save folks money. You won't be unhappy with your purchase but there are lots of people reading this thread who could benefit byt the potential savings of alternate approaches.
