Let's see your Plasti-Dip applications

Hey guys,

So I was thinking about grabbing a few cans of Plasti-Dip and having a little fun with my Jeep. It's platinum/silver in color, so I though the flat black would look cool in contrast and was thinking about spraying:

-Wheels (have the silver snowflake-style wheels with pretty bad corrosion, and the silver-on-silver look is rather blah...)

-Hood (the two raised sections in the middle, with maybe some type of subtle pinstripe to clean up the lines)

-Woodgrain Interior trim (I have the dark Agate interior, and thought the black would accent it nicely, as I don't care much for the fake woodgrain pieces)

What have you guys used Plasti-Dip on? I'm sure it would be pretty cool in tons of places, like the B & C pillars, rear window vents, covering chrome, etc. so post up a few pics of what you've used it on, I'd love to see some results and new ideas! Feedback on the product is always appreciated, too, i.e. how many coats when spraying, etc.

Thanks guys!

Derek

ELMC- that red on black looks awesome, I've always been a huge sucker for red zj's as they look so good with black accents, and always had a weak spot for a clean hunter green Laredo with the gray cladding. Both just look so good. Wheels look awesome, too. Really encourages me to do mine now.

Tucson- the vents look good, I think I'm gonna add that to my list also, since the paint on my vents is in poor condition and the clear has all peeled off. I also really like that license plate surround, never thought of that...

Exact reasons I did both. Clear coat sucked

Yeah my driver's side was side swiped once during POs ownership, and she had it reprinted by the dealership (ouch) who did a pretty bad job ( obvious paint lines on rubber, poor clear coat, chipping paint, etc). It's honestly had me debating possibly just picking up a few gallons of the plasti-dip and spraying the whole jeep altogether like shown online. Then it could always be removed if I ever choose to sell, which I doubt. In the mean time, ill start with just a few accents here and there.

I find plastidip to be a problem on a Jeep that see's offroad action for two reasons. 1. Plastidip stains from mud and dirt and is sorta tricky to get clean. 2. Plastidip isn't very tough, especially on plastics, so if you rub a tree branch it'll scratch it for sure. That being said, here's my hood. mines on the right. (old pic)

Hmm... Didn't think about it staining, that's an interesting point.

stay away from mud then. problem solved.

i did the hood, mirrors, and pillars.

the mirrors and pillars have been on since beginning of jan or so. the hood got re done in early February (got too close with the pressure washer, due to mud staining.)

the mirrors get whipped by bushes as i drive throw washes and what not. so from 25-1mph is what those get hit with and they could use a touch up. minor peeling due to the bushes. my advice the more coats the merrier, it won't hurt but only help you against pinstripes and what not.

Young- I've seen a few pics of your zj hood job before and it looked pretty awesome, do you have any more pics you could post of it, maybe a little more direct? That's really the look I'm kinda going for, like the new Overland style.

Thanks again
