KingtheZJ's Build Thread

I should have started this years ago, but I guess better late than never.

First Jeep was a gold 95 ZJ Limited with a 4.0L. Got it from my aunt right before I turned 17. It was an awesome first car. Ran it stock for a year as I learned more about Jeeps and put in a BB and ran a set of 31” BFG M/Ts. I had that until May 09 when I sold it for my current Jeep, a white 98 ZJ. Specs and current mods are as follows:

Drivetrain:
5.2L
249 tcase
Dana 30 front / 44a rear
Thrush Welded with turndown
K&N drop in

Suspension:
Front 3" lift coils (sagging to 2") + 2"BB = 4"
F>R swap w/ v8 coils = 3.25"
RE Superflex front LCA
RE adjustable front trackbar
Custom Rear LCA
IRO adjustable rear trackbar
Rancho RS9000 adjustable shocks front
Rancho RS5000 shocks rear
Rough Country quick disconnects
Kevin's Offroad steering stabilizer
Crown SS brake lines

Body/Armor:
Iceland Offroad winch bumper
Iceland Offroad front fender flares
Iceland Offroad rock sliders
Factory Skids
Rock ring front diff cover
Homemade rear diff cover and skid

Wheels:
Black Cragar D-Window, 4 inch backspacing
BFGoodrich Mud Terrain KM2

Future mods (have just not on yet):
RK front 3 link long arm
RK double shear front trackbar
Homemade rear bumper (will have swing out tire carrier when done)
Iceland Offroad rear fender flares
Flex-a-lite e-fan
Flex-a-lite transmission cooler
242 tcase

some of the pics are from when it was lifted 3 inches on stock control arms.

How do you like your KM2's and how have they down with the snow? How do the Rancho's ride with your set up?

Thanks guys! I wish I had more time to finish the bumper. I started it over Christmas break and didn't get it done before I had to go back to school. I'll see if I can find some better pics of it in its later stages -outside welded and going with 1/4"diamond plate on the deck. Its close to done, but needs a little more. It was my first fabrication project and first time really getting friendly with the MIG welder. It was a blast!

I love the km2s! They are really quiet on the road (cant hear over the sound of the thrush welded and turndown). And really good in the mud and rocks. I haven't had them offroad yet in the snow, but for onroad snow driving, they are pretty good. I would assume an a/t would be better, but the trade is definitely worth it to me. Stopping is really good, so I guess thats whats important. But the v8 can still get it sideways on a turn if there is a little snow/slush on the roads.

The Ranchos are ok. When I do the LA on the front I know I need new shocks, so I've been on the lookout for something a little nicer.

Thanks for all the input!

it has a thrush welded with no tailpipe. i bashed it off some some rocks last fall and decided not to replace it. since then i mangled the muffler pretty good, so it was a good call

hopefully i'll do a full 3 inch header back in the spring, if funds allow...

ok, i was gona alter my back bumper for more ground clearancebut realized it wouldnt change the fact that my exaust tip hits the ground first anyway.
and iknow how ya feel about the exhaust getting torn off, i have no muffler due to a snow bank and couldnt afford a new one so i just replaces it with a straight pipe (its loud as F*CK!)
nice looking zj im a fan!

thanks. i'm a little concerned about it because its only held on by the 5 bolts through the aluminum housing. i think if i were to do it again, i would make it larger and give it a hoop over the pinion (could also integrate a pinion guard) and have it tie into the axle tubes on either side. i might redo it as more of a under tube truss. i'm not sure. yet. i'm not excited about losing the ground clearance, so we'll see.

That's a nice looking ZJ. You better get a 241 and D44 front to live up to the Rubicon sticker
