I'd advise to stay away from the 99-01's. Reasons such as the transmission, brake caliper problems, etc. Check out wjjeeps to see all the differences. They fixed a lot of the problems in 2002 model refresh.

wouldn't avoid one just because it was an early one. My 99 is much better than friends later ones. Paint on mine is so much better than someone who has an 03 one in the same colour, seems to be applied much better. Also a good chance the calipers have been changed by now aswell.

Excactly what i am thinking to, looks like they started with waterbased paint inbetween Those years (02-04), all the 04' i have seen, seems to be more attacked from rust than any 99/00 i have seen. All car manufactures was forced to start saving on quality due to economical problems/low profit in about That time, i am very convinced That acrylic paint aint nearly as durable as old school thinner paint, Ask any carpainter about That to Get it confirmed.
Also looks like undercarriage protection Are poorer.
Also the seats Are Way better in the early models, i dont like the design and quality of the 04 seats, they Are always worn, and the Agate color of the early ones look Way better than light grey 2 tone colors in the 04's.

Cant seems to remember sein any HO here That wasnt a 04, i dont believe they sold any in 02/03.
All V8 WJ's i have seem around here is either 99/00 only seen a couple 01's, and some few 04's.

Only thing That makes me drool for a 04 is the HO engine, sweet thinghy, hmmmm

Think the paint started to go down hill in '01 The Wifes WJ is rusting around the rear arches, there is zero rust on mine despite harder use. I do have later seats fitted in mine just so I can get the 3 belts in the rear for the kids, but mine are full leather ones from an 03 not the later 2 tone efforts.

Didn't they make a 4.7 HO in 2002?!
I would try an 02! Because they got beefed up with the revisions jeep did that year to the wj's and still had (from my knowledge) the good paint job from the factory.

And this is an idea.. You could get a non HO and put the HO cams in it and need her up! And get a lot of the performance lost and you'll be able to get parts much easier since the 4.7's are a dime a dozen!!

Huh, sounds like there is a lot of difference between the WJ and WG. In my opinion, the 02-04's were the most revised and well made. Sounds like you've got some different seat options too. I know our leather here isn't nearly as nice as the export models. Along with the fact that the two toned leather was only offered in 2004 here.

Yeah, the export WG models are upgraded in quality over the WJ's for sure. Wireing, carpet, lights, fold in mirrors, and more,,, The 2 tone color interior was only availeble in 04 here in Europe to.
Would kill to have a perfect condition 04HO, all WG's around here Are badly negliated

Already getting tired of driving the sloppy beater ZJ, drivetrain howl make me crazy, been wrenching early and late every day for about a week now, to Get this sh driveble, but thats what you Get when you buy the cheapest one possible, or actually 2 for that price, thats the Jeep bug craziness for sure.

Also Been busy parting and selling out the parts Jeep, and the engine we pulled out of it Are now stripped down to the Block and rebuildt with all 98 parts, intake/exhaust, dizzy, flywheel and converter
Tried to mount it and found that the flex plate Are now not lineing up with the trans bolt holes

Cause the 93 parts Jeep have a AW4 trans and the 98 it going into have the 42re trans, the bolt pattern and circumstance at the flexplate doesnt match up,,,, FFFFFFFFBIGFF!!!!

Ok pulled engine out again, now guys!!!, where the F is the other flexplate???

Hmmmm, i think all those parts where thrown in the parts Jeep that was delivered to the wrecker 3 days ago, AUCHY!!!
Ok, today we got a new flexplate ordered from sweden, 2 more days and we Are back on track again, PHU

Also tried to solve my beaters howl with replacing the front DS with another one, still same, now i am quite positive that the rear pinion bearing Are causing this issue, it comes and goes with the load of the throttle, and the seal have a bad leak and i really dont know if i want to fix it. I have another axle, and swaping them would be easy if it wasnt for all those rusted bolts, so we Will see about that,,,,,

So Long, howling, vibrations, and clunks,,,

THATS HOW I ROLL, LOL

Really???!!! I thought the HO was not optional before 02, never seen anything ells than 04 HO's here in Norway, might be due to import tax rules here in 02/03 only.

I know the V8 GC in 99/00 it cost 146k USD, Same V8 GC in 04 cost 206k USD,
So no wonder why almost none was sold that year
