That's my plan. D44a spartan locked, MCV truss. HP30 WJ knucks, lockright. I'm beginning to gather parts, and look for axles. Unfortunately I'm moving into a new house soon, so most of it will have to wait till I get a pay bump and tax return. D44a should be fine for 33's especially trussed, although many people overlook them because of common bearing failures which the truss should fix by preventing housing flex.

The general consensus is that 44a's can take 33s in stock form, trussing makes 35s doable.

A truss is a good idea for anyone who wheels remotely hard regardless on anything above 32s to keep the aluminum housing from flexing

EDIT: Periwinkle beat me

I'm thinking I can do HP30, and D44a locked for under $1000 without touching brakes, bearings, or gears. Ideally I'd like to rebuild them, but probably won't until I have to. Also I'd like to regear to 4.56, but mostly won't until I go to 33's.

Parts I have:
D30 lockright

It'll get bigger I promise.

At least you have the 5.2 With the 4.0 you'd want to regear to run 33's. Heck, I'd like to regear, and I've just got 30's.

Yeah Periwinkle was a turtle. Black jeep is a damn hare. I found a 2.8 V6 5spd XJ at the junkyard with a vacuum disconnect d30 with 4.56 once. Kick myself for not snatching up those gears when I had the chance.

I know the feeling. I went to the local yard after work, knowing there were a couple things off a ZJ I wanted to snag last time I was there. It was all stripped. I should've known better. Jeep stuff just doesn't last in yards. Better luck next time, I suppose. If you need a gas tank skid though, they have one. Though you're in VA. Shipping is high considering the weight.

I still have periwinkle lurking in my stepdads back yard. It still has the gas tank skid. I need a Tcase skid though next time I hit the local JY. I cracked my 242 last time I went wheeling, definetly don't want it to happen again. I'd rather get hung up.

They have the T-case skid there, but it's been abused. I ended up buying mine off someone on JF. The one on the ZJ at the yard is so beat up, it looks like someone rammed into a rock or something and just bent it back. The bolts that go into the cross-member are pulled diagnal and show, when they should be flush against it. So it's likely going to require cutting the bolts just to get off. I opted against it as the yard isn't a u-pull-it, and the guys that work there were too lazy to even try to get it off for me. I didn't want to pay for a beat up skid anyway.

Anything on your old Jeep I might want though? You should part the good stuff out and sell it in stock form. Of course, you probably just swapped most of it to the new Jeep.

Yeah almost everything of any use is on my new jeep, otherwise it's a parts jeep for me, my brother, and my moms ZJs. We roll deep Oh yeah, my stepdad has a CJ with fiberglass tub, and D44s. Although, my dad drives a 350z, not sure where I got my jeep genes from haha.

Got it inspected finally. The D35 is making a howl, I assume a bad bearing of some sort. After I get this house I'll be prowling the local JY for a D44a. The rebuild kit from AAP is only $75 without my discount, and commercial hook up so I may just go ahead and do it while it's out.

I haven't gone to the JYs here in a while, but the PNS has had a steady flow of a dub or two. The other JY here has started to get them too. It's going to be a little bit since I'm shelling out like a grand to move into my new house. Tax returns for sure

Ballinn. The PNS here has one WJ and it caught fire. Nothing good at all.

I hate that, when the one vehicle you need things off of is charred up, and useless. What a tease...

I went to the local JY here and spent about 4 hours rumagiung around with my little brother Nathan (1stZJ), my friend patrick with a YJ on 35's, and my girlfriend. I didn't get anything for the ZJ. Everything I want (D44a, HP30,NP242) cost $100-$150 so since I plan on moving into my own house in a week or two it was out of the question  Nathan pulled an old CJ mail truck grill and lights though so I plan on making it into mancave art by dremeling the back of the headlights out and replacing it with regular 110V lights for a badass hanging lamp thing.
