For such a negligable difference in fuel mileage, it'd be interesting to calculate the return rate for savings. ie. how many miles would have to be driven (at a fixed fuel price) before the modification pays for itself and starts saving you money.

With the high gas prices, many people somehow think they'll save money by selling their gas guzzler and buying something more efficient. Well, if you drive 10K a year and your current vehicle is paid for and still reliable then it makes little sense to adopt a new car payment and higher insurance rates to save $50 a month in gas.

A while back I read a thread about a guy wanting to swap his carbed 4.2L for an EFI 4.0 in his YJ to save money on gas. At a $1000 swap cost I did the math for him and it turned out that the old Jeep would have to run like a hundred thousand clicks before it saved him money. Needless to say, I don't think he made the swap.

CZJ.

So I installed the flux capacitor but the Jeep just won't do 88 mph.

Every oil change i get i sea foam my jeep, i just pour a tiny tiny tiny bit into the throttle body and let it run, it creates a lot of smoke but it really cleans out all the s**t.
It didn't improve my MPG all that much only about 3-5 is still a difference, not to mention it's good for the jeep, it ran a lot smoother.

any ?s just pm me.

i got my 04 limited gc 2 months back before that i had a 95 cherokee that i flipped bad non repairable it saved my life. I went down the highway about 20 or 30 miles or so and the over head said (i reset it as i started onto the highway) when i got off the highwa 21.5 average (i was impressed) with cruise control set at 70 mph on. tho reg roads (stop and go) i get 16.6 to 17.2 depending. to make it accurate i fill up note the mileage the amount of gas (exact number i.e. 13.547 gallons) the date and how much it cost. Then i drive it and fill it up again later near the same mark i then take the new notes mileage and the amount and date. i subtract the old (64800) mileage from the new (say 65000) divide that by the amount of gas ( i.e 12.467 gallons) on the new note and i get my exact mph and it always averages city 16.6 to 17.2. but when i add lucas fueal stabalizer as i did on my old jeep i get roughly a extra half mile to the gallon its not much but adds up. since my vehicle is new(er) under 60k milage i add it once a month rather than my old jeep over 150k milage every other fillup

DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!

i put in new plugs and wires, intake, and yep one of those chips all over ebay, seafoam the throttle body... and an oil additive for v8 engines... makes a hUGE diff!... getting an adv of 7 - 8 miles MORE a gallon right now... went from 11miles a gallon to 18 - 19... to me that was WELL worth it! being in chicago our gas has been close to 5bucks a gallon this year... to me it is worth it... and i have a V8 4.7L

when i bought my 99 I6 WJ last year that was the first thing i did all new plug (champion platinum) although i wanted to put the bosch plat +4. Can we put the Denso Iridium plugs in the I6 I've heard they are much better than the platinums for spark and durability. Off of that rant... I changed the air filter all the fluids. I don't have a heavy foot (maybe 60-65 on hywy) hardly any stop and go but i still only average 16 mpg. This is with changing the oil every 5k miles or less and using marvel mystery oil, and fuel injector cleaner when i change it but still i hover right around 16 mpg average. I guess that this is the best that I can get considering it is a 4000# truck, unless someone has any suggestion.

^ well no duh, you've got a 2.5" lift and 31s so it's no wonder why your mileage is crap.

well no duh. dude you don't have to be an a** about it first of all the mileage hasn't changed since I put the lift on. that small of a lift has no affect at all. It has nothing to do with mileage. the engine isn't working any harder, the truck isnt any heavier. the 31's have some affect but next to none. My point is i drove the truck stock for a year and my mpg was 16, it's 16 now with everything. I'll just keep maintaining it like that unless someone could tell me more. I was looking into a snorkel rather than a k&n because of the wheeling. But I'm not gonna go all performance and whatnot on a truck with 100K miles that i drive everyday just to get 1 or 2 mpg more

hahaha yeah it is definitely not a car lol. and its far better than any ordinary "truck" it's a JEEP. yeah i'm ok with it not having the greatest mileage in the world. If I weren't I wouldn't have bought it. I'm just looking for any improvements on my maintenance routine. My goal is to get this baby to last 500k miles or more. I'm gentle on driving her so maybe it'll happen. my bro's 89 xj (my old one) has over 280k and still kicking same engine as mine 4.0 I6. Love that engine. there's my 2 cents lol

Gas Mileage

Hey I don't know what everyone is complaining about... pop my 4.7l v-8 WK 08 on cruise at about 65 mph on the interstate and I can rock out about 23-25 mpg if I choose to be a good boy in town I can get 17 (I am a very bad boy lol) but anyways I heard spark plugs also help with MPG any suggestions on what kind?
