I know 8+ people personally with 200k+ on their 360/318 motors and none have had any major problems with them.

On the other hand, I know of 4-5 people with 4.0's that have had nothing but troubles (one threw a rod, one had problems in the bottom end, etc) and I've yet to see a 4.0 that idled as smooth as my v8... I'm not saying they're bad motors either, but the whole 'bulletproof 4.0' thing is completely blown out of proportion. From what I've seen, they're no different than any other motor.

Take it for what its worth, but I'd take a 318/360 over those inefficient lead weights any day of the week.
Well I'm not saying the v8 is a bad
Motor either. My buddy has 190k on his v8

Sure is a lot of splashing around with that back paddling.

They are both pretty solid motors that have been around for a long time. It's just what you are familiar with and what suits your needs. How well you take care of them impacts how long they last. I like the v8's. Plenty of power and fun to drive. Never had one let me down let and I beat the crap out of my first one.
