The new owner

Hi my name is Rob and recently purchased the jolly green giant from Matt. I would like to start by saying how impressed i am with Matt's know how at his age and i would like to wish him the best of luck in all he works towards in life. I have always had a passion for building jeeps and fabrication and im a machinist by trade. Im going to do my best to continue this build forum where matt left off. My first order of business is to address some of the issues with the body. the drivers side door is getting replaced due to the big hole rusted through the bottom of it. The passenger door has no rust but was damaged before matt made the rock rails wider. I need to do some fabrication behind the rockers that were welded in to seal some things up. When im having the doors painted i might have the flares painted to match. I plan on doing a full cage and a 4:1 transfer case. I will do my best to put some pics up as i work on it and thanks for your time.

Sounds good, thanks for the kind words and I wish you the best of luck with her.

As you can probably tell from the build log, a cage, 4:1, coilovers and a set of 37s is what I was going for, and I think it'd be one hell of a rig once you got it to that point. It's ice to see it headed that direction.

Cage wise I wanted to do a hybrid internal/external cage like rstrucks did over on mallcrawlin.com , they offer the cleanlooks of an internal cage while offering body protection of an exo

The crazy thing is I was wanting to do a hybrid cage on my next build before I bought the jolly green giant so I guess great minds think alike.lol I'm just trying to decide if I'm going to buy a bender and do it myself or hire it out. I would love to do it myself but having kids and working 6 days a week that could take a while.lol

I should be able to get started on the J.G.G. beginning of February. I've been working 6 days a week and getting some things taking care of on my truck I've been putting off. I did get my hotel room booked for the Bantam jeep festival! Planning on taking down both my Jeeps. Anyone here planning on going?

At first I'm just trying to get some of the rust issue's and damaged parts repaired because let's face it if the thing falls apart there's really no point in more improvements to the Jeep.lol I do plan on many more upgrades like a 4:1 transfer case some led lighting and the hybrid cage!

I removed the factory leather rear seat and replaced it with the seat out of my parts jeep i think it's a much better match to the after market front seats.

Finally working on the under side trying to get some things sealed up. There was lots of mud hiding in the rockers I dug out after cutting away what was left of the inner rocker. I have made some cardboard patterns of how I plan to seal things up by using 1/8 plate steel

img20140428_220856.jpg
Picture above is before removing what was left of the inner rocker

After removing in rocker

How I will seal it up with 1/8 plate
