The breakage just happens to coincide with a passenger riding in the back who could have been pushing down on the switch continuously with her feet. Can you be more specific about what failed? It is really common for the plastic injection to get brittle and fail on the window slide so open it up and tell us what actually failed (eg. motor, broken cable, plastic retention housing, etc...)
If it is the plastic retainer, I have a free fix posted in my build thread so let us know what failed.
