Getting in the game!

Hey All! Long time lurker, first time poster.. Great site. Such a wealth of information and some AWESOME dubs around here! I've owned a WJ for 15 years now, and frequent this site for troubleshooting, DIYs, suggestions and general WJ knowledge.

The first WJ I left behind with my ex-wife in 2003. Bought new a 99 V8 Laredo. Had the factory class IV tow package.. used it haul my ski/wake boat to the Delta and various lakes when I lived in the SF Bay Area. Platinum/Gray cloth… great Jeep. Miss it.. not her!

Later that year, I picked up another WJ for boat towing usage and general utility as I started the next chapter in my life. A 2000 V8 Laredo w/Selec-Trac. Had <30K miles on it and is Stone White/Gray cloth. Drove it cross-country in 2006 when I moved with my then-girlfriend-now-wife to Charlotte. 16 days and 4500+ miles without issue! It's got 141K on it now, and still going strong, as long as I keep up on the maintenance! Pretty much stock right now, but that's about to change! The wife recently gave me the green light to keep it as a 3rd vehicle for utility and towing, and throw a little money at it while we focus on finding something a little bigger for our growing family.. 2 boys (5 & 2) and 2 dogs (7 & 3)!

I recently picked up a full set of JK Rubicon takeoffs, and have contacted the one-and-only Kolak to assist me in getting them under it!

I look forward to participating more in this forum as the build gets going. I've got the plans laid out. Though not all that big, a lot of the inspiration I have has come from you guys.. &

Here she is...

Welcome!

Charlotte huh? Only about 3hrs from me. Hit me up if you need some help installing your lift or anything else. Granted I'm from the ZJ world but I can still lend you a hand.

Looks great! I'm down in Wilmington but go upto char. 1-2times to B.o.A. for panthers games. Mine looked exactly like that in march when I bought it. Here it is now (waiting on the 33's I bought to go on Monday or tues) -I tow my boat around with it.

Thanks! If you'll work for beverages, I might just do that!

More NC folks…Cool! My brother went to UNCW… been up there a few times. Get to games from time to time. Will hit you up and maybe we can coord a meet up/beer!

Jeep is looking good! Post those pics with 33s!

Did you paint your cladding & bumpers? What'd you use, and do you like how it turned out? I'm on the fence right now with mine. Looking pretty faded and not sure if I will do the linseed oil and mineral spirits method (again.. I didn't do a good job), heat gun, or paint… Found some metallic plasti-dip that may be a good match for the Rubicons I just got.. may end up doing that.

Im down for a meet up ...great to see some nc people on here
Yep painted cladding and bumpers.
I just scrubbed them down good with degreaser wheel/rims cleaner.
Took all the lights out and grill off taped and news papered everything else off and started painting.
10-12 cans of Krylon Fusion flat black (2-3coats). Its great made specifically for painting plastics. You can scrath at it with your fingernail and it won't scratch it up.
I tried some touch up from auto zone it did nothing.
