Genright Hood louvers<< mini write up>>

Hey guys, Thought I would do a little write up for the guys that are interested in these but a little skeptical about cutting into the hood on your zj. Maybe this will give you a little confidence.

Ordered in my genright hood louvers. Really like the quality of them and the packaging was top notch. I called them and had them in three days which is pretty impressive.

Tool list
1'' painters tape
tape measure
metal rule
1/8 drill bit
Drill
4 1/2 grinder w/ cutoff wheel
sharpie for marking holes
Pop rivit gun
PATIENCE!!!

On to the cutting:
This is how I measured and got an idea of where my 14'' louvers will go. Marked the underside of the hood.

A picture of the under hood. You can get an idea of where the best to locate them is.

Using the 1'' tape to line up everything. You should get the idea from just checking the pics.

I had a pretty large box that i used under the hood to shield of sparks and drill filings.

First Cut is always the hardest. cut it with a 4 1/2 cut off wheel on the angle grinder. The lines turned out very straight and was happy with the result.

Both holes cut. YOu get the idea of what cooling benefits it will have.

Mounted. Used a pop rivit gun and an 1/8 drill bit. Pretty standard. I am happy with the look.

Initial impressions are about 7-8 degrees cooler on the thermostat. The heat billowing out of them is pretty good. I would imagine the vacuum that they create is pretty significant. The real test will be the next few weeks when luggin around on the trails.

Just looked at you build with your ZJ and then saw this mini build about the hood vents. Totally going to do the same thing on my ZJ now. Thanks for making a build write up about this and ZJ looks awesome.

I appreciate it. Sometimes is discouraging always posting and updating with minimal feedback. But I am glad it helps. The best way to build is take your time and choose parts wisely and hunt for good deals. Make your own build thread and keep us up to date. It's fun to see how your truck evolves.

I've got the same vents but put them in a different location on the hood. I don't have drip trays and didn't want the trays directly over the fuse box and the air intake. I hope you were smarter than me and either covered up the windshield or directed the sparks away from it...I learned the hard way!

ha, yeah i ended up cutting them with the sparks shooting away from the windshield. They just wouldn't fit in the center of the hood where i really wanted. them.
