gatorayde's build thread

Here's my build thread, nothing crazy compared to other dub's on the board here but I like it.

First up was purchasing it. Bought it last April with 132k on it down in north carolina, in great condition.

First mod was an exhaust. It got a high flow cat and a dynomax cat back. The earliest pic of it that I can find:

Then the fogged headlight's had to go so I bought some new limiteds, I think they look better with chrome than black.

Then it got de-badged:

Then came the lift. It got OME HD coils, mx-6 shocks, JKS track bar, disco's, and tossed the rear sway bar:

^ It's sitting low in the rear because my driveway's on a slight incline.

Then I tossed the front CV driveshaft for a carolina:

Then it got flexed for the first time ever, as pathetic as that seems;

Then came the 15x8 soft 8's and BFG AT retreads:

More mall crawlin

Then came the oops moment. I was cruising down death wobble road watch for pot holes and looked up too late and clipped an XJ's rear bumper. He got away with only a small dent in the bumper and a cracked tail light (no pics) and I got a nice dent in my fender:

Then came the tow hooks:

And A-Arm spacer (what fun that was):

Shortly after I took it mudding at my grandparent's farm. No pics of it, but I swear, it's been offroad

Then I added some 3/4" spacers and it's sitting right around 3.5" of lift. Here are some pics of it after I detailed it today:

Clay bar + polish + wax =

So that's the history of my dub. Right now I need to save for college so this is as far as I'm taking it. Some day I'd love to swap in 33's, a d44a, and long arms.

I was planning on it but my trans has been acting up lately (fluid/filter/brand adjustment helped a lot last night so hopefully it's fixed) and the last thing I want is for the trans to go 2 hours from home; that would be an expensive tow

So far great, I've had them up to ~65mph and they are still in one piece. They are wearing good too so far, I'd buy them again for sure

I didn't with just the springs, but once I moved up to 3.5" (added .75" spacers) I put it in shortly after.

Hey, I'm gonna go with the OME HD springs and MX-6 shocks. It's nice to know I can put in some 3/4" spacers later on if I want to go to 3.5" What's the ride like with it like that? Is it any different than it was with just the springs? You're making me want a WJ. They look more modern than the ZJ's, that's for sure. But I OWN my ZJ, I know it's issues, I've got most of 'em fixed or on the way to being fixed...

Bored out TB? How's that work and is it worth it? Did you replace the stock intake, also? I'm trying to get all I can out of my I6. It's peppy, on level ground.

So what setting do you have the shocks on?

Put these in a couple days ago:

Hopefully picking up some teraflex coils (used) and some dt8000 shocks tommorow. Ordered some of the overstocked teraflex coils (not sure which set of teraflex coils I want to keep lol). Ordering some IRO adjustable rear lowers tommorow. My IRO stage two sliders should be here in the next millenium thanks to a crappy seller. Might also pick up a d44a with 4.56's and an aussie. I'm keeping the .75" spacers with the coils so it will be at ~5", yes on short arms and crappy shocks. If everything goes as planned it will be sitting at 5" of lift, with a d44a rear and 33's by the end of the summer

Last edited by gatorayde; 06-04-2009 at 11:21 PM.. Reason: overstocked, not backordered *dur*
