Hopefully finishing up the rock rails this weekend. I found a local guy with a plasma cutter and welder to help me cap these...this is the end of the overland rock rail with the plastic caps off.

Welded the caps on the rock rails today. Need to finish grinding and paint them.

Haha, yeah, that's the first time I've ever welded. It was harder than it looks but with practice would get easier. I am going to spend more time grinding just to clean up the welds.

Not bad for the first time! It gets better with practice. I wish I could weld on my jeep everyday lol

I scored a free jeep cargo liner and a set of front jeep slush mats for my ride today. Haven't done much to the jeep lately. Everything is on hold until I get my turkey for the season. I have been out 5 or 6 times this week but it looks like tomorrow will be the day. I have been set-up around drumming, gobbling, and Toms coming down from the roost just to head in the other direction. No all the fields have been molested by other hunters and they are gone. Found a new section of private property today, got permission, and scouted a new field and found 2 Jakes with a hen. It was raining and our call wouldn't work since it got wet. So, we backed out of the field to go back tomorrow. Fingers crossed

Had to remove the tire carrier to use a trailer for mulch. Kind of a pain in the a$$ but doable. It's just awkward and top heavy. I didn't remove the tire first. I removed and reinstalled the carrier and tire as one piece. Maybe next time I will remove them in 2 pieces.

Mounted the rock rails today. Pics coming sometime this weekend.

Edit: Still no turkey and it's been holding me back from working on the WJ. Heading out AGAIN tomorrow am. WARNING: I will post a pic of the bird when I get it.

Successful weekend of hunting, sort of...

This bird came within 10 yards of the blind. He was actually getting ready to fight the Jake decoy we had out. My father-in-law (on the right in the pic) called him in straight from the roost. He called, the Tom answered. This happened over and over again. The Tom came right up to my blind, it was my shot. I slowly aimed, took the gun off safe, pulled the trigger and heard CLICK!! The round misfired. My father-in-law cleaned up and took the bird from his blind. So...I am still looking for a bird and he is prepping his for the grill this weekend.

Longer story short, the mossberg I was using needs a new spring. The firing pin hit the primer but it didn't hit hard enough. This was Saturday morning. We went back out yesterday to a new field. I called in 6 birds in a bachelor group (4 jakes and 2 toms). Well, the 4 jakes came to the calls and the toms ignored them so I let the jakes go hoping to get the bigger toms another day. I hope I don't regret that!

BTW, that's me on the left, father-in-law on the right.

The tire carrier has been getting a lot of use lately and finally broke. There was a catch welded into the angled tube that kept the carrier from "hyper extending" like in the picture. It's obviously not supposed to drop that low. The catch stopped the tire carrier from opening at about 45 degrees. Good news, I emailed Mark at Detours and he is going to warranty the carrier. I will cover shipping to him and he will cover shipping back. He seems to think that I dropped the tire carrier onto the catch (not recommended for this reason). I don't remember that happening but I haven't been the only one opening and closing it. Anyway, I will be taking it apart and shipping him the part some time this week.

I found some JK Rubicon take offs for a great deal. I'm thinking about it. Maybe grabbing them and painting them flat black. Anyone have thoughts?
