dealerships installing hitch for free?

I thought I read somewhere because of the gas tank being in the rear, dealerships will install a hitch for added protection? Maybe I read wrong... Lol

I got a recall notification to set up an appointment to have one installed. I also had a notification that my ZJ needed the same thing.

Does the one you have hang below the bumper or through it? I heard that it it has sharp edges or is contoured in a position that it will cause the tank to rupture during an impact, it needs to be replaced with the one they supply.
I also have read that these hitches can not be used for towing but I'm not certain if that is only because it is not supplied with the lighting system. ????

Yes its true. I had a mopar hitch originally either way but it was ugly and rusted so they replaced it with a brand new one and added those skid plate braces.

Yes it hangs below the bumper it's a Curt. There is plenty of space between the hitch and gas tank all the way around but still not acceptable for Mopar.
Not sure if the wiring will be redone, will check back and as far as towing i have had no issues with the Curt, it's a fine hitch.

I just had them install my new factory hitch today. Darm shame it doesn't include the wiring.

I got denied pretty much by two dealers. Because I don't have an aftermarket tow hitch.
I'll just buy one offline and install it myself.
