Custom LED license plate lights?

Both of my license plate lights have burned out. I took the lens off and noticed the burned out bulbs were melted into the bulb socket. So... has anyone clipped the wires and added an LED light in place of the stock light? Just curious. Since I was pulled over because an officer could not see my license plate, it's something I am going to do very soon. Thanks!

Yep! Same thing happened to me. You don't need to clip the wires though. What I did was found another JF member who was parting out a WJ and he sent me the whole wiring harness that just plugs in. I ordered some of these (below) and then tried them on my existing partially melted sockets and they still worked so I have a spare license plate socket harness now. I love the LEDs because they don't get hot enough to hurt anything.

Look on eBay for white LED 194 bulbs and there are a ton of different styles. I tried a few of the really cheap ones and these put out the best/most light. There are brighter better ones, but for the money I say these are the winners.

I see you're from Utah. What part?

superbrightleds.com has a lot of LEDs to choose from also. I ordered some Blue wedge base 194's for my license plate lights just the other day. They should be here Monday or Tuesday.

I believe superbrightleds also sells the actual sockets too.

LEDs

Do the LEDs you linked on Amazon plug straight into the standard housing or is a new socket needed?
