Update on the overland gauges, discovered cause for seatbelt and Airbag light. On the 01s the seatbelt light communicated through the BCM to the gauges. In 04 it communicated through the airbag control module. It is an LED and as such I must break the traces on the board. I can in theory connect the seatbelt sense wire directly to it and it will work, but its not worth my effort.
The airbag light, sadly, must go. There is no real way to make it work. Reason being that they must have switched the airbag control modules in later models (apparently the newer WJs sense the passenger seatbelt as well to determine which airbags to set off) so they must have changed the communication protocol at some point. I am going to see if its possible to switch the control board from my old gauges into the new gauges and retain the electroluminescence and the sexy gauges... apparently at least in 01 the gauges were individually removable/swappable.
I MIGHT hold on to my old gauges and at some point bring it to my EE lab and hook it up to an oscilloscope, see exactly how it communicates with the airbag module and such and see if it would be a simple circuit, inline resistor, etc to fix the problem, not having an airbag light makes me kind of uneasy... maybe I'll have the old gauges handy to hook up time to time just to check airbag light status. I cant go back to the 01 gauges, these overland gauges are literally awesome, my interior feels so much classier.
Cruise control light is also a lost cause, unfortunately because apparently for the first part of 04 they did a discrete light on the dash like older Jeeps whereas mine has it in the VFD. Later in 04 they switched back to the VFD. I MIGHT be able to trigger this light manually if I can figure out how the cruise solenoid is powered and if there is a constant power line that is activated when cruise is enabled... I think there might be if I remember correctly theres a voltage and a couple ground lines for solenoid control, will look into it but honestly its not priority at all, doesnt take long to realize cruise is on...
