Exactly... and It would probably come out if I really tried with a vice and a torch (like ericthecarguy had to do) but at this rate for an extra $30 I got new parts and an upgraded drag link and dont have to deal with it so I was like mehhhh why not. but if you look at the pics the old end isnt even rusted in the threads look brand new.. Idk man haha its been a pain but in the end new parts = happy Jeep .. AND I cant wait to have tight steering again

I was walkin through lowes and saw sheet metal so I was like hmmm. So I designed v1 of my radar detector mount. It's rough and was only done with hand tools but it's a design to work off of.

Neat!

I used to mount my radar detectors above my rear view mirror. I figured I was already looking up at that anyway, so it became a part of my driving routine without adding another place away from the road to look at. Another great benefit, it was nearly invisible from the outside, even after getting pulled over, as it was not in the officers field of view saying "HI, I AM TRYING TO NOT GET CAUGHT SPEEDING!"

I know that radar detector is really a curse to have if I ever do get pulled over... and honestly I dont even speed anymore... I'm just superstitious ever since my first and only speeding ticket and as sad as it is I don't have enough faith in the legal system so I try on every account possible to avoid them. I've bent over backwards and taken corruption head on and it made me sick to my stomach. So I'll probably never get pulled over... but I really like knowing now when I get beamed

I feel like at that location you may miss some "visibility" for the radar out the back or side windows... For it to be most effective it should have a 360 view.

Probably, but he doesn't tend to drive in ways that would require a radar detector anyway, so he should be fine.

Yeah I agree that it is much better suited up by the rearview mirror area but I am exploring mounting options up there... I refuse to keep using suction cups they suck pretty bad

This is true... if anything that radar detector is my scarlet letter... its always there reminding me not to speed... and plus it feels good when I'm doing exactly the speed limit (which I do on the highway for mileage reasons) and the thing starts going nuts and I see a statie hiding behind a overpass. Then I look over and see some guy in a big GM SUV fly by me and I know I'm good. Its also useful to keep me aware... most of the time the speed limits here are 55 but occasionally they can drop down to 35-45 on random stretches so its good to keep me on my toes. Plus it beeps every once in a while for false alarms, which I dont mind. I have mine set up so that when I'm at idle RPM it automatically mutes. I suppose it reads voltage output for that.

What about a bracket like that with some mirror "glue" to hold the bracket on and then a type of clip that will hold the detector on. You can easily run the wire in the headliner and down to wherever.

I was thinking about that but having that little puck on the windshield would probably irritate me to some degree. Also I want to have a nice mechanical connection, like screws or bolts.

Tie rod ends have been held up in a facility in CA for 3 days now, I don't know what FedEx is doing I always have bad luck with them. UPS is definitely where it's at but these should still be here by Friday

Eh, both carriers pretty much suck. UPS is generally cheaper though. Looks like we both get to do a lot of TREs this weekend, as my 3 that I haven't replaced yet will arrive tomorrow.
