kindof makes changing the tail light bulbs tough though. im personally not a fan, i say stick with the factory tails but still build the panel protection.

From what I understand, there will ultimately be nothing behind the armor panel, other than the light fixtures mounted to the armor. As the edge of the factory tails is flush with the rear hatch, I think he plans on stopping the edge of the armor plate where it meets the rear hatch. This way, when you lift the hatch, you have that 5-6 inches of depth behind the plate to fit your hands and tools to repair/replace anything. Actually just as convenient, if not more, than working on the factory tails, won't even require a socket, just lift the hatch and do w/e.

My recommendation though if I'm correct here, would be when you wrap the armor around, where the edge would meet the rear hatch, I would say extend it maybe an inch or so and bend it where it would meet the hatch, this way the slight lip would prevent anything from getting caught between the armor and hatch and bending anything, prevent any debris from hitting the lights, and it would look a little cleaner from the outside, it would look from the outside like it is one sealed piece, and wouldn't take anything than one more quick rounded bend on each side. Just a thought. Still looks great, I can't wait to see some pieces start being put together.

Thanks

Can't wait to see this finished, might need to have you build me some! Hahah. I'm in the woods alot, between hunting, fishing, trail rides, etc, my poor jeep gets scraped and banged by tree branches a lot, and for some reason, my rear fender area is very prone to taking a lot of the beating, so something like this would be perfect. I always thought of doing something like this myself similar to like the diamond plate the wranglers use on the rears, but i was concerned about means of fastening it to the body (drilling, screws, etc..) and didn't want to be the first, or ruin anything! haha so needless to say I'm glad you're doing it, hope it works out well!

well.. looks like the Quarter Panel armor will be delayed a little bit due to issues ive been having with the jeep

ran through quite a few tests before i came to the conclusion that it was the fuel pump

- checked the fuses

- checked all lines

- used a multimeter on the harness for the fuel pump to make sure it was getting 12v

- disconnected the line where it connects to the fuel filter ( replaced fuel filter at same time ) and tried starting the jeep... no fuel came out of the line

everything pointed to the fuel pump

bought a new fuel pump and replaced it... took me a few hours ( i have never done a fuel pump or dropped a tank before )

Now it runs prefect the problem is fixed

a guy i know towing my jeep to my buddies house for me ( on the cheap )

fuel tank dropped

fuel tank going back in

So it looks like you would have been better protected with an Exo-Cage....?!?!?! I'm just teasing ya'. Your Grand is looking pretty nice. It's even nicer because you are doing most of the work yourself. Keep the pics coming of what you decide to do for body armor. I'm excited to see the end result.
