Had a little trouble with my boost gauge tube melting on my tow rig last month leaving Price, UT. I rigged up a quick aluminum heat shield to make the rest of the trip.

Finally got around to fixing it today with some soft copper tubing. Should be good to go now. Just in time, we are starting our Moab trip a day early tomorrow!

Had a good time in Moab over Thanksgiving! I had a little carnage this trip and ended up replacing an axle side upper control arm bushing and two driver side axle shafts. For a change of pace, I did the work in the Aarchway parking area instead of Jarrod's (WJwheelin) driveway. I'll add more pictures and video as I see them. It is time for me to buy another camera.

Wednesday we ran out to Tusher Tunnel and hiked around the area.
Thursday I replaced the UCA axle bushing.
Friday ran Golden Spike with the group and broke the stock drivers side CV shaft.
Saturday ran Hell's Revenge with the group and broke my spare drivers side CV shaft.

Tusher Tunnel

Golden Spike

And the most common position for the trip...

At least the kids were having fun.

Chris, the pics look great! Im upset I wasnt able to go with you guys this trip as it looked pretty Awesome!

I know last time we were in moab, you said you were looking for a good deal on 6.5" springs.. well right now im talking to a guy parting out his WJ and i dont need his springs since I already have some. if you want me to ask him about price.. send me a PM or text me. he is in Colorado but I have a friend out there who will pick parts up so it wont cost shipping.

Picked up a new 'improvement' project for the WJ today.

I'll be putting together a vari-loc D30 for the front to eliminate (or at least reduce) the shaft failure problem that I am currently having. Couldn't beat the price! I will post some better pictures as I go.

I was seriously contemplating unibody plating and a D60/Sterling combo, but this will be a much cheaper way to stop breaking cv's for now. Hopefully it will restore some streetability for the winter. The front Spartan likes to push through icy/snowy corners even when in 2wd.

Can't argue with having a little reliability! That was crazy you went through shafts so quick. Btw, if you come across a front high pinion 44, let me know!

Are you looking for a full width Ford, or a Waggy version? What are you doing for the rear?

Preferably a full width HP44. I'm okay with a 5x5.5 bolt pattern, due to the fact I can retain my current wheels (they are drilled with both 5x5 and 5x5.5 patterns). I plan to keep the 44a, for now, and truss it. The 44a is a solid performer and is plenty stout for 37's (which I plan to have by spring). I will only be running like that for a small period of time, anyway. By fall, when I'm back in UT, I'll upgrade the TC, drive shaft, and new rear axle all at once.

(And yes, I'm still buying a Yota crawler!)

Have you been able to make any progress on your axle? What are your plans; are you hoping to just swap carriers?
