Just a thought, but have you recharged the Freon again?
If you have a slow leak, the compressor will start to kick off and on as the system gets low, and once enough escapes it won't run at all until it gets refilled.
It's sort of a failsafe so the compressor doesn't burn out if it doesn't have Freon/oil in it
