I used a flap disc on the tubes. I was making light passes, I don't know why it was eating it up so fast.

Yeah I used a flap wheel too, used a wire wheel to get it this time after some light surface rust came up and it worked wonders. That sucks about the wheels, those things add up quick $.

Looks good too

What should I use to clean off the pumkin? The wire brush I got doesn't really get the caked on mud off.

Edit: and the inside of the pumkin too.

I'd just use brake cleaner and a rag to clean out the inside of the rear end.

Oven cleaner works really well to clean parts off, then the paint sticks real well too.

The brake cleaner is working great for the inside of the housing but it smells so bad.

Also I decided to bite the bullet and fix the front end of my jeep. I've been having a loud humming noise between 40 and 50 mph (first I thought it was the driveshaft doing this but it's gone and the noise is still there) along with the front axle shaking and the steering wheel vibrating. I was going to wait and just live with it till I got the new axles in but I can't take it anymore.

I need to do this too. Its driving me nuts. I think my rear end is going out so I need to re build it and get in that aussie locker quick.. Oh if I had the cash... Lol

The axles look good. My friend has been using a wire cup to clean his 44. Works well. Yours is much shinier tho

Update:

Worked on the rear somemore after work. Put in about an hour and a half.

I got all the old mounts off except for one of the old leaf spring perches, it took me forever to get through the other one so I called it quits. Still need to find the correct socket to get the yoke and pinion gear out. The front axle already has the yoke loose so I'll take that nut to autozone or something to get the correct socket.

Riddler Diff covers get ordered on Thursday then TnT Truss and Clayton's Rear Bracket Kit the following paycheck.

A few pictures of my progress:

BTW the tubes are not as choppy as the pictures make them look. They are smooth all the way across.

There's no way that brake cleaner smells worse than diff oil. I assume you haven't dealt with any yet?

Brake cleaner is more of a "get you high" kind of bad smelling chemical...diff oil is more like cat urine mixed with baby crap with a light misting of skunk spray.

That's exactly how I'd describe it.

It doesn't smell worse, I don't think anything smells as bad as diff oil.
