Hah y'all think the Mobil 1 is hard to find I'm running Rotella T6 now. If you know where to find it they won't be out of it but whenever I go somewhere new I have to do some scouting. As of now Walmart ~10 minutes away seems to do good and AAP is my backup lol

I run T6 too and have never had trouble finding it in jugs, but then again I've never had trouble finding M1 either.

It's not the finding it that's the problem, it's finding it for less than $7/qt. Always in stock @ FLAPS but always $8.99.

Yeah. The 5qt jug is $24 at Wallyworld. Can't argue with <$5/qt for M1 anything. If they start carrying the M1 ESP formula in a 5-qt I'll have to stockpile it for my TDI.

Is Rottela T6 diesel oil? Isn't it good for the 4.0 because of something to do with the ZDDP? Or something like that. I run the M1 HM because of the added zinc.

Yes, and Yes. Turbo diesel trucks and the like need high zinc levels in their oil so Rotella T6 has Zinc levels way higher than any passenger car oil (even Mobil 1 HM). This isnt really a big deal for those with the 4.7 but for the 4.0, its got a flat tappet cam and it really likes having that extra zinc content. Granted... the 4.0 will take just about anything as long as theres enough of it lol but might as well pamper your engine, no? Wanna know why passenger car oils dont have as much zinc? IT was determined that most newer design spec cars could really care less so the zinc level was greatly reduced to cut costs as well as reduce heavy metal content within the oil. Heavy metals such as zinc within the oil will contaminate and shorten the life of the catalytic converter which you better believe they addressed out of emissions motivations. So while, yes, excessive zinc will wear on your cat sooner its overall much easier to replace your cat than your engine :P

The add pack in the M1HM (beyond the zinc content) is amazing and it has high TBN to boot. I'd run it in any gas motor regardless of mileage; it's terrific stuff. It's actually got a better add pack than their standard SuperSyn or their Extended Performance (although EP has the highest TBN for long drain intervals.)

I am glad that the M1HM meets the Billzcat Standard! I have been running it in my Jeep for almost every single oil change. I do a 5K mile interval is that too short?

Well, I run 6 and Blackstone says I could run 7. However the max setting on the EVIC is 6000 so that's what I roll. On your next oil change, order up an oil analysis and cross over into the dark side of automotive nerdery.

I don't have hosting for .pdfs or I'd upload them for you to see.

http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ - test kit is free, postage $1.87, test is $25 (or $35 with TBN reading, helps determine if you can run it longer).

I have one with a sample taken in July sitting on the shelf, just keep forgetting to mail it! I even went to the post office to mail snobrdkid07 my spare EVIC w/TPMS and didn't bring it with me!

Got the news today that I'll be going back to work with "only a $5 raise". It feels nice not to be getting screwed by my agency. That's a good deal, can't wait to get some disposable income and dispose of it on my Jeep! I could be working as soon as Thursday!

That'd be a cool thing to do, send an oil sample off for analysis. Would like to know more about it, drain interval, and what's in it! Id probably get as far as receiving the kit and then putting some oil in it, then that'd be the end of it. Figure if I stick with the mobile 1 HM, probably can't go wrong there.

It's nice and nerdy... come on... join the dark side. If nothing else it will validate your choice in M1HM. Psst don't tell the Amsoil guys, my UOAs come back better than theirs!

Id love to join the dark side, too bad after that little incident a few weeks back, Enterprise is trying to get 688 dollars out of me for a 1 inch long scratch and a little nick. Mom got that letter in the mail today... isn't that great.

Need to see how that goes before I spend some more $$, I've got a few thousand miles before my next change anyways.

Woah, no kidding, better then amsoil? I thought that ish was liquid gold...
