I did my 242 swap today!  let me just tell you this, i NEVER want to see another snap ring in my life! haha. I used the jeephorizons 242 swap writeup as a guide and there were quite a few things that were left out that could have been very useful. I didnt have the time to take pictures and do a write up but i think im going to make a thread about my experience vs the jeep horizons writeup so they next guy doesnt have such a hard time.

both the front and rear shafts are fine. it did pull the front shaft out a little but nothing to be worried about. Its awesome having 2wd. you can definitely tell the difference. now i just need to replace my CVs with ujoint shafts to completely eliminate the front end noise. it is a lot quieter is 2wd

Wait till you try out 4low that locks. You'll be in love. BTW Bigblue, there's a 8.8 with 4.10's here at a local junkyard for under 200$...

ahh ok...i need to find one for mine..i have my front DS disconnected andlove the 2wd..haha

i think with being that yours is a 96, you be better off finding on off a 96 or newer.
