Biffs Build Thread - 2000 WJ

Ok, well here goes nothing. Here's the starting pic (didn't get many!) I drove up to Montreal to look at a few Jeeps, was in a time pinch and so I picked this up at $1800 with 260k km on it. Rustproofed up until 2010, so theres a couple spots on the fenders I'll fix up in the summer, but otherwise not much rust at all.

Not sure how much I'm going to do on this, in terms of lifting and everything, but we'll see how it goes.

Alright, so ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon and started adding it on. Was up at my buddy's garage on the weekend and switched out the headlights. I replaced the stock housings with these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003066NKC/ (Spyder Auto Jeep Grand Cherokee Chrome Halogen LED Projector Headlight)

I also added an LED light bar (for those dark winter drives in the bush). No way I was going to spend $1200 on a Rigid 40 incher, so I picked up a chinese knock off.
Part: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AYZB6Z4

In a word - it's simply unreal how bright it is. I will post some more night pictures later. I'll also put up some more detailed of my (temporary) mounting to the roof rails.

Here is some pics (sorry bout the out of focus high beam one). I left the original halogen bulbs in the projectors, and I may have aimed them a bit down too much, but I'll re-adjust when I add some HIDs.

Low Beams only:

All Lights and the Light Bar:

Another pic with the big light on.

over the weekend, I made a DIY ski rack using some 2x4, 2x2, some hinges and latches. Worked awesome, could hold 4 sets of skis.

Looking forward to seeing that light bar. Although I do love my Hellas with diy hid mod.

I'd like to see some night pics of the light bar. That's pretty cheap if it works well.

I promised someone to show how I mounted the light bar - here it is.
I was somewhat rushed when doing this, and I plan to build a custom roof basket that will include a mount to put the light bar over the windscreen.

For now I grabbed a couple of U-Bolts (forget what size they were, probably something like 2.5") and some metal from around the shop.
I wrapped the u-bolt in black wire sleeving to make it look less shiny. Then I hooked it under the rail, and cut a piece of metal out that would overhang to the outside of the truck about 1.5". This overhand is where the hardware that came with the light mounted to.
All in all it was quite easy, and easily removable without any permanent damage.

*Also, I edited the above posts with some pictures of the light bar in action.

Very nice pics, but IMO I don't like the way the light bar looks on a stock WJ. It just doesn't look right to me for some reason.....It looks fine on a lifted WJ, but on a stocker it just looks too tall if that makes any sense. Also, mine is a DD that will see snow/ice maybe twice a year if it's a hard winter in Texas. For me the light bar would be a toy for when I'm offroading but other than that would be nothing more than a status symbol. I think I've made up my mind that as long as my Jeep is stock it won't have a light bar on the luggage rack. But I'm glad I checked this thread so I didn't waste the $$$$ on it. Thanks!

Now one thing I HAVE considered is eventually putting a low rise bull bar or safari bar on the front (not the entire grill guard that covers the headlights) and putting a pair of LED spots on that. I've seen a few WJs on the forums with something similar. I'm not a big fan of the grill guards that cover the entire fascia of the WJ.....I like the look of the front just fine but one of these is what I want. My pref. is something just like this height-wise.: (NOTE; this is NOT my WJ, only serves to show the bar I would like to have)

Yeah, its http://www.fawkesfab.com/FMD/off-road/ Fawkes. Price depends on what you get (tow hooks, front hitch, brush guard relocation, etc)

Err wait, maybe its slightly customized.. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f310/...oints-1634689/

Well that looks real nice, but I think I need to concentrate on just getting some recovery points on the front and rear of my WJ first then a small lift before I get too carried away with awesome bull bars.

By the way I think that one of those bull bars with a short LED bar where the fogs are on that pic you posted would look really nice....

BOT; sorry to hijack your build thread....I'll just say you've got a nice looking WJ. I like the light bar but I'm not sure that that would be my style.
