..... Which Grand Cherokee generation is the best ......
Overall, I liked the '97 ZJ Laredo the best, better than the '00 and '03 WJ Laredo's and the '08 WK Limited. Only PITA was the spare tire in the cargo compartment.
The first 3 GC's had the (bullet-proof) 4.0L I-6 and this one has a 5.7L HEMI. Too many electronic gremlins in the WK.
Now a 426 HEMI mountain motor in an '04 WJ Overland would be an interesting combination.......Pass everything on-and-off the road except a gas station..........
HEMI CLUB MEMBER #45; SILVER WK CLUB MEMBER #13
'08 WK GC Limited. 5.7L HEMI. Quadra-Trac II. Bright Silver Metallic. Class IV hitch.
Michelin LTX M/S tires. Fumoto oil drain valve. Billet Technology oil catch can.
I have owned a 98 5.9, driven my brothers 95/v8 ltd and 98/v8 ltd cousins 96 laredo I6, my buddys 95/v8 laredo, and the daughters moms 06 ltd 4.7/qt. I now drive an 03 ltd with the 4.7ho/qd and it has been my favorite by far. I really like the way the quadradrive axles work and the smooth power of the 4.7ho. The jeep overall feels a lot more refined and comfy. Now I will say that the 5.9 seats and interior was very nice and liked the torque of the 360. My vote goes to the wj.
For basic comfort, leg room, and stock prowess, I like the WK. QDII is awesome, and as a stock 4wd system, about the best I can think of. I realize there's less ground clearance than previous generations, but the few who've modded their WK's have made some really awesome rigs. If I could afford it, I'd want a WK Overland with QDII, stock skids, and the Hemi, of course. Now that would be fun to build up.
last i remember was rating Grand Cherokees based on their offroad capabilities not how comfy they are -.-
Well, I was giving all around general opinion. I'm 6'4" and often find myself in quite a bit of pain after any length of time driving my ZJ. So legroom is a factor as far as I'm concerned. As for off-road prowess, there's no way any ZJ 4wd system is on par with QDII. Even QD in the WJ is inferior. I don't love the idea of electronically controlled 4wd, but it's one nice system. Besides, every 4x4 is electronically controlled these days.
eh WJs were okay, i drove my dads to work and school for a year before i bought my ZJ. it definitely was a BIG upgrade even though it was 5 years older. Im still trying to challenge dad. be fun to compete 4.0L ZJ vs 4.7L WJ
