Basically, yes. Some 78/79 F-250s (Snofighter and High GVW packages) came with D60's.

Oh ok. I've just started reading the "Dana 60 Bible" over on Pirate and just saw that.

Hmm, kingpin for $600. Don't those go for like $1000 or more most the time?

Damn I will tell you right now that's a screamin deal on that front 60. $1000 is pretty common. You should do it! That's the same exact one I'm building for Andy's jeep

Well it turned out to good to be true. I just called the person and they said it was a 44, not a 60. I was going to pick it up today if it was a kingpin 60.

I'm still contemplating the HP44 and 60 though.

DANA 60 Axles

Says F/R are out of a 2001 F-250. The Pirate "Bible" doesn't list them as being offered in that truck. Just did a search and found that it's a Dana 50 which is often confused for a Dana 60.

Whats the thoughts on a Dana 50?

Edit: Jeez, the Dana 50 is just as bad as the 44A when it comes to aftermarket goodies. I'll pass.

Well, looks like I have a promising lead on some axles. I called the guy from this listing:

Ford 73 thru 79 F 250 parting out

Called him up and talked to him for about 10 minutes about the truck and axles. He said it was a 1978 F-250 with the HP44 and 60. Tags verified the 4.10 gearing. He also told me something about the hubs being the small hubs and not the large ones. Said the axles were in real good shape for being 1978 truck. I asked him how much he wanted out of them and he said he'd have to get $400 for them. Which I don't think it that bad of a price.

What you guys think?

so if you go that route what are you gonna do with the 44a? im pretty local and i been looking for one of those.
edit: wow only 400 for both thats a deal heck the 44a's ive priced have been 400 and up.

If the axle plans do pan out to what I'm hoping, I'll be selling the stock axles if I can. I probably will try to sell them as a whole with all the goodies on/in them. But just so everyone knows, this axle swap is going to be a drawn out ordeal. I'm in no rush to put them in. So no one hold their breath just yet.

Anyone got any words of wisdom about these axles? Good deal? Any fab problems that could arise because of the axle itself? Come on AP, I know you got some knowledge to dish out!

i mustve missed it what goodies are you refering too?
ive read somewhere the 78-79 f250 axles are pretty sought after when it comes to axle swaps so it mus be a good thing.

i have no specific direction to offer you except my jealousy but take a look at what the JK guys are doing as im sure people have used these axles under a JK before, axle swaps are a dime a dozen with those and with similar setups to WJ's(ie hub bolt pattern, abs, brakes etc), you could kinda "copy" one of those. theres alot more support for JK's and i know ive seen CA mount kits for axle swaps for those before, i would imagine HP44's and a 60 would be common choices for axle swaps. just a thought

Well, basically all the "goodies" are on/in the 44a. On the 44a I got the MVC truss, BTF cover and the Aussie Locker. Only thing really of value on the 30 is the JKS tie rod and maybe the IRO SS relocation stuff.

Yea, seems like a pretty common swap. That being said, I definitely have quite a bit of info already thats out there for me to follow. I just got all these questions running around my head cause this is the biggest thing I've ever thought about doing to my Jeep. Right now, my biggest concerns are brakes (with e-brake) and getting a speedo signal.

ya i havent seen a ebrake so far on all the wj swaps on mallcrawlin seems to be a hard thing to swap over. As far as speedo goes ive seen 2 differant things 1. wire the rear abs to the fronts and use those to pic up speed 2. use t case speedo. Heres the write up

Yea, I have that link saved to my favorites on my browser. Good info in there. I was thinking about throwing a 231 in so I could get the speed sensor.

For the e-brake, I've read you can use '78 Caddy Eldarado calipers cause they have an integrated e-brake within the caliper. I would assume I could use the stock cables for the e-brake with them. Don't know yet. I've also been thinking about the brake booster/master cylinder and if they are going to be enough for the new brake setup and 37s.

i read somewhere where someone bought lokar cables for the caddi brakes and it "kind of" worked. Not to sure about using the stock cables. This is why i havent went 1 tons i would love to have a 9" in the rear but it seems complicated when you get down to keeping a dd rig.
