Well, got a BTF 44a cover on the way. Hopefully it will be here by Saturday. Any suggestions on some good colors? Maybe a dark red or gunmetal?

Pulling the transfer case tomorrow to replace some seals. Going to clean it up real good. Hell, might throw a coat of dark silver on it to make it look new.

Ok, some questions.

Pulled the transfer case out just now. Was going to replace the input seal to the transfer case and that was it, but it seems that the bad seal is the output of the 42RE. Reason I say that is I brought the Jeep up to temp and checked the trans level while in neutral and the line of ATF didn't even reach the first hole on the cold part of the stick. Yikes. Would an input seal to the transfer case just be evident by ATF coming out of the weep hole at the bottom or what? My leak had shown up all the way up on the side of the trans/transfer case. Would this assumption be right?

Anyone know a part number for a 42RE output seal at advanced, autozone, or somewhere?

Well, just got the Jeep back together. Went ahead and put a new trans output seal on since the case was off. Input and output on the transfer case were changed. Hopefully that will stop my leaks from that area.

The rear diff is still leaking. I'll probably fix it with this...

This BTF cover is bulletproof. Soooo beefy its ridiculous. Think I'm going to paint it a dark red.

I think you should paint it the color of your jeep. I painted mine Silver and added the same decal I have on my fender to the diff, my jeeps name is ''The Punisher" so I found it fitting.

Yea, just picked up some red paint to match it pretty good.

So the output of my transfer case is STILL leaking. I don't know what the hell is wrong with it.

Edit: Going to replace the breather hose with one that goes up to the engine department. Maybe that will help, cause I don't see how a seal can go bad after less than 30 miles.

Do you maybe have a part number or something? I don't remember a brass bushing when I took it apart to put a new chain in. I don't have a 242HD, just a regular one. Maybe that's the difference?

Ok. I'm still stumped on this oil seal problem though. I guess I'll have a look at my transmission mount tomorrow. I'm getting really tired of smelling burnt ATF on my cat.

Well, I pulled the driveshaft off again to look at the seal. It was fubar'd as I expected. What happened was the lip of the seal that contacts the shaft slipped into the groove where a lock ring is supposed to go and just screwed up the seal. Guess I'll be making a trip to the nearest Jeep dealer to buy some lock rings to hopefully stop this once and for all.

Going to prep and paint my diff cover right now.
