If you leave your brakes attached to the Jeep, you don't even have to bleed them. That's what I did on my 5.9.

dont forget that the different engines also have different transmissions behind them as well. the 4.7 trans is shorter than the 4.0 trans (if memory serves me correct)

Without taking off the boot and seeing how much of the slip/splines are showing it is hard to say for sure whether it is too short or not.

I was thinking that earlier, I just haven't gone outside to mess with it since its been raining all day today. Didn't you have to convert over to a double cardan like I did, or did yours already come like that from the factory?

I'll probably pull the boot off tomorrow and see what's going on under there.

I assume you did this after Claytons via Carolina Driveline?

Rear driveshaft is from Tom Wood (Installed the 242 SYE) and the front is a longer Carolina Driveline drive shaft (that replaced my Tom Wood drive shaft). I needed another new front drive shaft because when I pushed my axle forward to clear the 35's I was at the limit and was getting very mild vibes.

Just got done checking out the splines on the driveshaft.

Here is what it looks like when its in the yoke, just without the boot.

I didn't have a tape measure next to me, so I just marked the original position with my thumb.

What you guys think? Lengthen it or is it alright?

I would say it is right on the edge of needing to be lengthened. When it is assembled and both ends connected to the yokes, and you push/pull on the middle of the driveshaft where the two halves connect, do you have any play/slop in there? If you do, I would get around to replacing it at your earliest convenience and keep this one as a spare (that is what I did).

Actually, I may be a bit confused in the pics. How much engagement do you have? It looks like you have 2-3" at least in the second pic which is plenty.

The second picture shows how much engagement I have. And yes, I would say at least 3" of splines are left.

Whew, glad I can put my mind at ease on that issue.

Bama,
It came straight from my 4.7L. I'm not sure what the issue is with your set-up, unless your axle is pushed too far forward. In any event, if you have 3" splines left, I'd say you're set.

Yea, I guess I just figured it would slip in there like CV shaft did; a bad assumption on my end. The only thing that was putting up a fight was the rubber boot which made it a chore to place into the axle yoke. I slid the top part of the boot down a little bit and its perfect now.

Thanks folks.
