I figured I would go ahead and jump on the bandwagon and start my own build thead.
It doesn't consist of my much right now, but I hope to change that by summers end. I'll try to put everything in the order that I got stuff installed. So here it goes...
First off, a little bit of stats:
2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
UpCountry Package
4.0L I6
242 Transfer case
98K miles when bought in April of 2007
When I first got my WJ:
I then started to get the itch to start modding things. First in the line up was get some exhaust put on there. I ended up going with a Flowmaster 50 Series and a Magnaflow/Carsound Hi-Flow cat. Sounds pretty nice.
I love coming home from work and seeing a Summit box on the ground!
Next, I ended up installing a K&N FIPK kit. I found it on eBay for a decent price.
Then I finally purchased a lift. Only had the funds to buy Kevins 2.5" Budget Boost at the time. I really wanted the IRO 3", but I have been real satisfied with this BB paired with the MX-6 shocks. Once you learn how to drive the Jeep decent offroad, only a little bit of lift can get you quite a few places.
A couple pictures of the installation. Nothing to extreme.
Here is the end result. Stock vs. 2.5" BB and 31" Goodyear Silent Armors:
Thanks. Yea, it was just by coincidence that happened. I had been thinking about it for a couple days and then I saw Greg post the whisker picture on Facebook. Great minds think alike I guess.
As for the rear bumper, I'd kind of like to follow the design of the front. What I would really like to do is kind of follow what FCZJ did on the rear of his rig. Maybe not cut the rear hatch up, but get rid of a lot of the metal thats behind the tire. AP did a lot of cutting in the area as well. But I love how FCZJ's came out. Check it out...
Well, the locker didn't show up today. Surprise, surprise. We'll see what happens now...
Also going back and thinking about running the Solid unit bearing eliminator kit. After reading some JK forums, some guys are running these on some 60s and getting the speedo to work off the factory harness. If that's so, it will work on a WJ harness as well. Just have to splice in some new plugs and it should be good to go.
I think your design looks awesome. Can't wait to see it in the works.
I'm the same way too... when EOR did the custom backhalf and then put on a simple tube bumper on the rear, I thought "ehhh, I dont know about this"... now that its all done, I truly love the simplicity and effectiveness.
And been doing more research about getting the speedo to work with these axles. I'm thinking I can use the tone ring that's in the S10.5. The Ford tone ring is mounted behind the ring gear and has a 120 tooth count. If I ground down every other notch, I'd have 60. I feel like that would be close enough to a WJ's 54 (I think) tone ring tooth count to compensate with a speedo correction device, like the one Moony and gatorade used.
Yea, that's actually pretty close to what I want. Now that I actually see it, I may have to talk to EOR about seeing if there is anything we can do to suck in the winch.

I have always said.... "im never gunna need a winch".
Now that my wj is gunna be a mostly off road vehicle, im getting a winch. I have been saved 3 times by a winch, and without one, who knows what mine would look like, maybe agitatedpancakes.... ha.
But I would highly suggest one, especially since you are gunna be on tons so I hope that means no more bunny runs for you. I think after the Rubicon im building a bumper, and maybe see if AP can bend some tube for me.
No, not really. Just been saving my pennies for the most part. Starting on a house hunt (apartment living blows big time), so that will be taking over some or most of my savings. But I did get a tracking number and confirmation that my D60 Detroit Locker WILL be here tomorrow!
Game plan right now is to keep the WJ running and driving while gathering parts and money until I know for sure when its going into the shop. Would hate to tear the axles out of it then realize it ain't going to the shop for a good while.
Another note, I'm taking the Jeep on its first wheeling trip in the South this Saturday. Can't wait to see this new park by me. Will have lots of pictures I hope.
Took the Jeep out for a day of wheeling at a new offroad park today. The park was kind of lame since it hasn't really got on it's feet yet. Give it another year or two and it should be a good place to wheel. Took me about 3 hrs to wheel everything my WJ was capable of wheeling.
And I CANNOT wait to get rid of this damn 242 setup in favor of an Atlas. This is the second 242 that has taken a **** on me. Same problem, too. The front will just disengage whenever the slightest amount of throttle is given. Makes the same noise my first/original 242 did when it wouldn't engage the front output. And it of course quits working when I need 4low to get up a steep incline with loose dirt and rocks. I'm done fooling with them.
Anyway, here are a couple pictures from the trip. Nothing spectacular.
$350 for each I reckon. I'm going to give this guy near me one more chance to get the rear bumper. He was paying me $100 at a time and only has $150 left. But the last time he actually paid me was back in March.
And I don't know the first thing about shipping by frieght...
well if he falls though let me know (i only have 150 in the jeep fund now anyways). My buddy down in Mobile will pick it up for me and bring it to Ohio next time hes up though.
Got both bumpers on CL now. Not getting any hits on it even at half of what I paid. Might have to put up a listing on JF. If I were to do freight shipping, it will probably be through Greyhound. So, if anyone is interested in that, let me know.
Not a WJ update, but I got exhaust coming for the Hemi WK. Pretty stoked to get it installed.
